Fire Greg Davis.

I just see no future with this style of offense. All of Iowa's QB's are pocket passing ones. Even the kid from Texas that committed. You need a mobile QB (not exactly duel thread QB), to run this offense. Penn State's QB was mobile. Then you need the speed WR's that can get open. Smith, Cotton, and Flemming are speed guys, but Cotton is the only guy with a catch out of them. I understand that Flemming redshirted so he can't have any.

Who exactly are they recruiting that will be a speed WR that makes plays? I fear Iowa's recruiting isn't fitting this either.
Don't forget Mabin...he's a speed guy as well (compared to what we have right now)...the question in the future is, "Do we have QBs to run this offense in the pipeline?" or "Is there one coming?"...at this point, we just don't know.

The offense isn't as conservative as much as it is the way Iowa runs it, is...if that makes sense. Kirk is a ball control guy who doesn't take chances (fakes, going for it on 4th down, etc)...pro-style isn't conservative, the way Iowa uses it, is.

While that may be true for many (definitely not all), I really can't blame him with some of the offenses we have had. I am sure that if he knew Iowa could execute gutsy play calling then he would do it. Honestly, I wouldn't want this team going for it on 4th when punting is warranted simply because we wouldn't have a chance to win. I think Iowa wins more close games than it loses and I attribute that to not shooting yourself in the foot and giving the game away. Ferentz will get desperate when he needs to, but not before.

My only real gripe with Ferentz gameday calling is is clock management. That is straight awful.

I totally agree...but I'm not just talking this year's team. It's been Kirk's M.O. the entire time he's been here. And you're right. He's never been good at clock management.

After watching this video last summer, especially the closing moments, I said to myself, Iowa is going to suck this season. Do you really think these players are going to respond with anything that resembles a fire in the belly?

It's the Todd Lickliter era of Iowa football.

Plodding, frustrating play. Fan frustration and apathy.

We need to get into the Fran McCaffery era soon.
