Final Bowl Blog Update for today: Hawks v Huskers?

Mike Hlas tweeted this and I agree: If its Iowa v Nebraska in Insight, the Insight will have better attendance than the Fiesta Bowl

I really think this is the best case scenario for 'give a damn' factor, both at the game and the weeks leading up to the game.

This could be a sneak peak of the level of vitriol and smack talk we will see each year with Iowa and Nebraska.

This is setting up to be more than any of us could have expected.

A potential very, very, VERY postitive ending to a most disappointing season.

A victory would actually make the year not a total failure and give us some serious momentum into next year.

Should be roughly the same gameplan as we used on Michigan. Stop TMart from killing you on the ground and make him beat you in the air.

This is really something I have been thinking a lot about.

A win vs Nebraska would not make all of the pain go away...maybe not even half of it. It never, ever will be forgotten.

BUT..it would help...and you are right, it would change the mood in Hawkeye Nation, in Iowa City, in the football complex and for the future.

By the same token - a loss might make it worse... A LOT worse. Like UNBEARABLE worse.

The biggest winner here is Insight.

I know it isn't really BCS but it would have a BCS-like feel to it more so than an early Jan 1st Outback or Gator Bowl game. Primetime with essentially everyone in B10 and B12 country watching this one assuming they have NFL network.

Yes, that is true. But I'd rather have a shot to flush a good portion of it than not.

I really think this opponent is someone the team could really rally around...I know that Iowa didn't give its best effort vs MN...but that sort of thing can be flushed out of the players with this much of a layoff, time to reflect...the pain of goals unmet in the rearview mirror and reconciled mentally.

Then, thinking of the legacy you will leave in college...having time to speak with former players...knowing that you might need a great bowl showing to give your NFL draft resume a boost...things like that.

And the coaches hammering a lot of this home...the 'how do you want to be remembered' sort of thing.

Insight got moved to ESPN this year. Also, it's an 9:00 start on a Tuesday night and I don't think there is too much competition.

INSIGHT is on either ESPN or ESPN2 now. It's no longer on NFL Network..:D
