Final Bowl Blog Update for today: Hawks v Huskers?

Yes, that is true. But I'd rather have a shot to flush a good portion of it than not.

I really think this opponent is someone the team could really rally around...I know that Iowa didn't give its best effort vs MN...but that sort of thing can be flushed out of the players with this much of a layoff, time to reflect...the pain of goals unmet in the rearview mirror and reconciled mentally.

Then, thinking of the legacy you will leave in college...having time to speak with former players...knowing that you might need a great bowl showing to give your NFL draft resume a boost...things like that.

And the coaches hammering a lot of this home...the 'how do you want to be remembered' sort of thing.

This is nothing but truth. I had a bad feeling that if we got stuck in a bowl with a disappointed Florida or something of that nature we wouldn't be able to get up for it. An opponent like Nebby all of the sudden should relight the fire under their *****. Not only that, but Nebby will now be the disappointed team. They went from making this season their "farewell *******" tour to losing a heartbreaker in the title game.

This is really something I have been thinking a lot about.

A win vs Nebraska would not make all of the pain go away...maybe not even half of it. It never, ever will be forgotten.

BUT..it would help...and you are right, it would change the mood in Hawkeye Nation, in Iowa City, in the football complex and for the future.

I live in Council Bluffs and work in Omaha Jon. A victory over Nebraska would pretty much top anything Iowa could have done this year save for a NC or a Rose Bowl win. I might get fired from my job if Iowa were to play and win the game just to avoid having to talk to me for 11 months and 29 days before Farmageddon.

A win here actually would erase all of my pain from this season; but a loss might put me over the edge......

Insight got moved to ESPN this year. Also, it's an 9:00 start on a Tuesday night and I don't think there is too much competition.

I just looked it up, the Champs Sports Bowl is played right before it, but there is nothing else to compete with it other than probably NBA or NHL.

TMart gets rattled way too easy. You could see it all night tonight that if you took away his first receiver he was like a deer in headlights.

Only when he Gets pressured. Who is going to do that? We won't blitz and he if is able to make us thing run he will burn us.....he did it all year until he got hurt

NBA, meh.

NHL...that still exists? ;)

It's a pretty good setting for a non-BCS, non-"major" bowl game.

We contained Denard Robinson pretty well and DR is a lot better than TMart.

Very few times in football do you get a chance at redemption after letting your fans down. This could be one of those rare times.

I just hope that we get several of our key players back - it would make a difference.

True, in football, true. In life though, you get that chance...looks like football could parallel life again...if it happens, I smell a column :)

+1000. As far as I am concerned this might as well be the Natl Champ. It's that important. Anyone that works in Omaha will understand if we lose....we are just their new Iowa State.

It appears that the Alamo's Pac 10 team will be Washington. Nebraska played at Washington back in September. There won't be a rematch, Apollo.

Jon, what do you mean, "Apollo"? I understand Washington just eeked it out over WSU, but what's your intention in saying "Apollo"?

There have been several factions that have formed over the course of the season...

* The "Fire the staff" faction
* The "Fire KOK" faction
* The "Don't change the staff but take an introspective look at the program" faction
* The "Check out Ferentz 5/8/10/12 year record" faction

Regardless of which fragmented piece of the fanbase you fall into, I think if there was one bowl game that could really galvanize the team and it's fanbase, it's a game against the Cornhuskers.

More than true. Win and things get better fast....lose and things get worse very fast.
