I do think it'd kill the HWT if you added a 220 or 230. Today's HWTs aren't the huge monsters they used to be bumping up against 285.Yeah, I agree, I don't see it happening either, but from a fan standpoint, that's kind of a weak argument IMO.
6-10 guys that have a chance at the podium every year isn't going to change either way, so forcing wrestlers in that 225-230 lb range to either, 1. cut weight drastically or, 2. wrestle guys 30 lbs heavier, doesn't make sense. And, more importantly, it's not fair to the athletes.
If you look at the current top 10 on Intermat rankings, only 2 for sure and maybe 3 wouldn't make 230. Steveson, Schultz, and maybe Hendrickson. Kerkvliet, Trumble, Trephan, Slavikouski, Heindselman, Feldman, and Kueter would all hit 230. You'd basically be just shifting them to a new class. It wouldn't benefit Kueter because he'd still get his ass whooped by all those guys in a 230 class.
