Yeah, I agree, I don't see it happening either, but from a fan standpoint, that's kind of a weak argument IMO.

6-10 guys that have a chance at the podium every year isn't going to change either way, so forcing wrestlers in that 225-230 lb range to either, 1. cut weight drastically or, 2. wrestle guys 30 lbs heavier, doesn't make sense. And, more importantly, it's not fair to the athletes.

I do think it'd kill the HWT if you added a 220 or 230. Today's HWTs aren't the huge monsters they used to be bumping up against 285.

If you look at the current top 10 on Intermat rankings, only 2 for sure and maybe 3 wouldn't make 230. Steveson, Schultz, and maybe Hendrickson. Kerkvliet, Trumble, Trephan, Slavikouski, Heindselman, Feldman, and Kueter would all hit 230. You'd basically be just shifting them to a new class. It wouldn't benefit Kueter because he'd still get his ass whooped by all those guys in a 230 class.

On a side note, was anyone at Spencer's meet Wednesday? Bummer that he lost to Ono, but Ono is a machine. I'll be watching when it pops up on YouTube.

Wasn't there but I think Spencer is cooked mentally unfortunately. He's always had the mindset he was unstoppable and he was for a good long while, but for someone with his intensity and drive losing to Ramos was bad enough, but silver in the Olympics just pushed him over the edge. His entire wrestling career from a young age he said his only two goals were to be a 4 time natty champ and an Olympic gold medalist which he's failed both so far. To have this last one happen in Iowa City makes it worse and (this is just my personal opinion), his mom makes it worse yet. Not a fan of that lady.

These guys are different breeds and when your whole life is laser focused on a single goal it's too much to handle and affects you for a long time. I know Terry personally and the Sydney Olyimpics f*cked him up permanently. To him his entre career was a failure and that's not a good way to go through life. If you watch the documentary you'll get a good feel for it but I'm guessing you already have.
