Ferentz versus Fitz

If you were a gifted student athlete and both NW and Stanford were recruiting you - where would you prefer to go? Plus Stanford tends to run hot and cold. Few good years and then a few mediocre years.

Fitz is a way better coach for a program like NW then Ferentz would be. Our style wouldn't work at NW because our style requires better athletes. Fitz gets just as much or more out of less as Ferentz, but I'm not sure Fitz is as good at beating the upper half of the Big 10.

Ferentz beats Wisconsin, Michigan, and Penn State more than anyone else outside of Ohio State.

I agree that Fitz gets a lot out of his team, and they are great competitors.

However, they've not won a bowl in...forever. They're near the bottom of the division, and they've lost a lot of games this year. They were also supposed to be pretty good this year.

Lastly, every style works with better athletes. It's all about execution.

LSU and Alabama played a pretty dull looking game yesterday, didn't they?

Just an FYI Stanford"s overall record since 2000....... 59-70. Not so good

It's amazing how quickly Harbaugh and Bowlsby turned it around. Seems like the trajectory is up right now.

2009 8-5
2010 11-1
2011 9-0

I just don't think they have too many issues with getting athletes even with the Academic Standards.

Is there any poster on this board who saw the NU-UN-L game and the Iowa-Michigan game today who can honestly say Ferentz is a better game coach than Fitz. We got a nice W and I'm happy, but if the Hawks had the rock with 9 minutes left and a 3 point lead, I think you can book a 3 and out followed by a 4 point loss. Fitz went for it on 4th down because he knew his defense would gag, and they did, but bince he was aggressive and didn't tie down his o-coordinator (like Ferentz does to O'Keefe), he got out of Lincoln with a win.
We went for it a few times yesterday, and Northwestern had absolutely NOTHING to lose.

Welp, the jury has spoken. With the end of the Fitz tenure in Evanston, by my count Fitz went 9-8 against Ferentz. Very impressive stat.
