Ferentz should steal an SEC assistant to be new DC.

It sure would help with recruiting athletes. We should hire (steal) someone experienced in the SEC. How come the Hawks always hire from within? Mediocrity breeds Mediocrity.

Are you implying that the Iowa defense has been mediocre under the current staff? That is simply not true.

It wasn't bad enough that you made the ludicrous reply that also think the idea dictates its own thread.

Again, Iowa's defensive recruiting and player development haven't been problematic, so the concept that you need to steal an SEC assistant to recruit against SEC schools to solve a problem.

First of all, your dominant recruiting and DC candidates in the SEC aren't likely to get away from the SEC. They're recruiting local kids, by and large. If you think recruiting local kids to SEC schools will likely translate into southern kids flocking to Iowa, you're mistaken.

In case you're looking for history, see how successful that was for Iowa State with Chizek.

Iowa is lucky Chizak didn't stick around more than a year. You are a reason people make fun of this board.

First off, Chizik was there for 2 years.

ISU has a coach that is a better fit now anyways. Chizik was something like 5-19 at ISU. Tell me again why we are lucky he didnt stick around?

Also- Every single one of the starters last night in the BCS Title Game, not counting kickers/punters, grew up south of the Mason/Dixon line. SEC country is where the majority of the BCS level talent is. Just because Iowa hires a DC from that area does not give us a better chance of pulling a kid from Louisiana, Georgia or Alabama.

really? wow- ur so smart! Why don't you come up with an original post?

1. Iowa is NOT in the south, kids from there are NOT going to flock to Iowa
just because a coach came here.

2. No room for improvement - ???? - there always is, but GOOD LUCK!!

3. Iowa has done more with less, then ANYONE on the defensive side of
football. The struggle now, is finding someone that can continue the
kind of success that Norm had. NOT and easy task.

I think Erik Campbell was Iowa's last hire and he did not come from within. Came from Michigan. To say Iowa always hires from within is not true. Iowa hasn't hired a coach in 4 years when Carl Jackson retired! (Soup) Before Soup, Darrell Wilson was our last hire and he came from Wisc. Norm, KOK, P Parker, EJ, Doyle, and Morgan have all been on staff for 11+ years!!! Now, guys get moved around from within say from RBs to WRs, or what-have-you.

Maybe not in droves, no. But what about existing recruiting relationships and recruiting pipelines that the coach might have already established? Meaningless?

And if you haven't noticed, KF and his staff recruit a lot of players from NJ, MD, MA, etc. That's definitely outside the region.

Much more likely for a kid from the states you listed to not be turned off by an Iowa winter than a kid from LA, GA or AL that has never even seen snow.

Highly sought after kids from the south rarely leave the south. Its just the way it is.

You will not pull the best players out of Louisiana and Alabama. Aint happening. Tebow himself couldn't pull that off.

Here is the reason why people make fun of this board, it's pretty much encapsulated in your replies and posts:

It seems to me that Fry recruited from where he was from- the south. Ferentz tends to look to Penn area and east coast. Ferentz needs to hire a strong southern DC who can recruit against SEC.

We should hire Jimmy the Greek as our recruiting coach?

Hey SEC 136, this is at least the 20th time Ive seen you call a thread "dumbest ever". Do you have any original ideas?

I don't mind people suggesting changes in the program. I am all for some change, but when your posts are repeatedly riddled with this illogically unsupported ridiculousness and childishness then you frankly don't reserve the right to tell anyone that their contributions are taking away from the board.

You. Embody. The. Problem.

First - I didn't say necessarly THE BEST players.
Second - i didn't specifically say ALABAMA & LOUISIANA.

The "south" is a much wider region than just those 2 states, and I'd have to believe there are still plenty of worthwhile recruits to be had in the region without necessarily getting the 5* recruits. Pretty sure Saban & Miles are getting their in-state blue chippers locked up.

Moot point though, because I'm pretty sure KF won't be hiring a DC out of the SEC.

Austin: it's not nice to call people names. In addition to that, I think it is correct that we have little chance of pulling in any southern recruits other than Florida players, most of whom are not heavily recruited by SEC schools. This inability to recruit Texas and the deep south is what hurts us and many other schools
