Ferentz Hires Phil Parker for DC; Other Staff Changes

Forbes was going to be an alltimer...doncha know? Josh Selby was going to come with him...yea,that Selby, the one and doner at KU,who is riding the bench in the NBA now.

Good memory.

Batten down the hatches,it's gonna be a doozy!!

Well, I remember that day well, because there were only two people who were not livid, and I was one of them. A certain poster, let's call him "BlorminBlank", called for Barta to be fired.

KF leaves more coaching knowledge on wads of paper after his morning coffee than this collective board has. I'll trust him more than the "DURRR NEW BLOOD DOWNWARD SPIRAL" crowd.

i dont get it… is this what is best for our future?. im frustrated

In a way yes it is. We knew we needed a DC, fine, but then we find out we need a OC also.
At that point you have to find some stability in the program. Since our D (execpt for the last few years, which just so happens to be when Norm was having health problems) was the most stable and actually the best side of the ball for us, you shore that side up and try and keep it stable. I think RM will have a big impact at DL, because thats where we have been hurting recently anyway. Now our ex DL coach is in Braska. :) at the same job :). Now all the coaches are pretty happy, and now you just have to worry about the O side, which was everyones big complaint and the side that needed the most help anyway.
I think it was what was best for the program.

I was disappointed at the news at first, because Herrmann would have been a splash hire (??????). But coming around. This post is spot on.

yeah but they hype and momentum we would of got with a name like Jim Herrmann would of been great for the team. idk you're probably right. its still frustrating knowing that KF is unwilling to hire someone outside of the program. he knows what is best for the team so i hope this will all work out!
Go Hawks!

So, anyone have an honest and logical reason/thoughts why they extended the deadline for this hire?

Will Morgan be able to stop the bleeding on the DL? Doesn't seem like the best fit to retain the type of guys that have bolted from that position at first blush. But who knows? Maybe a grandpa type is what they need after being beaten down by a drill Sargent.

Because BF factors in somehow (OL coach in combination with the Reece Morgan change?), and Ferentz needed to make sure things shake out and needed to wait until after the SB for that to happen?

So, anyone have an honest and logical reason/thoughts why they extended the deadline for this hire?

Name one way the "hype and momentum" would have helped the program?

I have not checked time lines to see and this is only a guess, but I bet Okeefe told KF he was trying to get that job, I know I saw where he did not find out about getting it until last week. Makes a big difference if you are just looking for a DC or a DC and an OC. I know it's not as sexy as waiting for the superbowl, but hey we are not a sexy program :).

While other B1G teams hire outside coaches and get new blood our staff shifts coaches around, the same coaches that have produced mostly 7-5 records throughout the years...

I'm excited...

Can't wait to see what internal coaches get the offensive coordinator position...

The term ultra-conservative takes on new meaning with this coach...and friendship and loyalty take on a whole new meaning with this coach...

Let's see...how many sons can he make coaches to truly make this a family affair???

it would of got people fired up for the upcoming season. at least it would of got my fired up. try to find someone that just got soo ****** excited for this season because we hired Phil Parker for our DC. good luck.

So some fans getting excited will make the team better?

yeah!??? haha are you serious? you're telling me that fans being excited doesnt help the team?!?!?! haha

No, I am saying the excitement won't carry over 6 months from now. I don't think in September, the stadium would explode the second Jim Herrmann stepped on the field.

Licklighter won COTY and some ppl were excited with the hire, given how "his" (cough) team performed that year. Just a case in point, maybe...

I'm still fired up about the upcoming football season! Coaches don't matter to me, just want W's!
