That will be a sad ending to a football family when ever Kirk does retire. It should not have taken as long as it did when Beth pulled the plug. Loyal Iowa Hawkeye Fans had to feel a certain sadness that it came to the point where the son of the record breaking Big Ten coach had to be fired.Fair weather is the opposite of blind loyalty.
Let’s face it, the Ferentz era at Iowa needs to rapidly come to a close. The game passed him by about a decade ago when he thought hiring his son was a good idea.
I know I mentioned it before, maybe a couple of times when we openly were critical of the situation. It's also sad that the whole football world had to watch the unraveling of an former Iowa player that I and ten of thousands all cheered for when Brian wore the Iowa uniform. I personally wanted him to be highly successful as the offensive coordinator at Iowa and then be hired as the head coach. This not only would have carried on Kirk's legacy but still would have been a connection of the late Hayden Fry.
It's also sad that the results were so poor that even former great Iowa players were calling it NEPOTISM. It may forever be a stain on a honorable coaching job by Kirk. If only Brian had been some what successful then there wouldn't have been such a huge spotlight on what happened.
