“There is no greater joy in life,” Moore was once quoted as saying, “than moving a man from Point A to Point B … against his will.”

I understand KF truly believes that football is a "MANLY" sport and confidence is usually always King. There are no shortcuts...NEVER show weakness... PRIDE in your craft... Do it the right way... blah blah blah....

why can't we be different this time? Why do the lineman have to make the run game work? Why can't we take the path of least resistance instead of making the players beat their heads against the proverbial wall? ... Insert run against 9 in the box here....

with all due respect to the coach he said it again today.

OUR GOAL IS TO BE BALANCED..,. Just like always.

I'm tired of seeing opponents sell out their normal strategy to beat us.... AND us doing the same old same old rather than respond in kind.

I have a really novel idea...

To hell with balance do what it takes to win that game....

When you start recruiting like Nick Saban I'll support you focusing on Balance and imposing your will on the other team.

For now I think the two coaches Ferentz better just start concentrating on finding the easiest ways to get results and to hell with theory!

It seems to be working pretty damn well for other teams....

The problem is that we as fans can watch a game and see several advantages that would work in our favor if our coaching staff took a little time to actually game plan. Kirk is always going to be x and o football period. No matter the competition better or less than us. He will only play ball control/time of poss and wait for the other team to make the first mistake. Its his system and always has and you won't see any creativity until he is gone. He refuses to game plan for other teams weakness and instead lets them game plan for us. The problem is he has had better than 50% success at doing it that way and since we all know he plays the favorable odds it won't change under him. Kirk hasn't figured out what NFL teams have in the last twenty years and that's why Tampa two cover and west coast offense isn't seen anymore. Its outdated. There may be variances of it played but for the most part its been tweaked and updated with new philosophies. Kirk will always be Kirk! I guarantee you will see the same old approach against Ill on sat. Run for loss, run for loss and hope for one to break through.

I know there's many fans who want(ed) Bielema to to be the next Iowa coach, and he's the exact same way. It's frustrating watching us try to 'establish the run' all game long. I'd like to see us 'establish the pass' to open running lanes later in the game.

If Iowa had beaten Penn State this year, what would be the tenor of the discussions right now? 4 seconds. It's a thin line between love and hate.

The same assuming the MSU game was the same result. The defense bent all over the field. I have no idea how PSU didn't put up 50 points considering what I offense didn't do and how much of an advantage of field position they had.

We have (and have had) fundamental issues on offense for a majority of KF tenure. Had Hooker tipped the final pass, yes everyone would have been sky high, but that would have come crashing down with the performance at MSU. Our offense still would have come out looking like crap.

That's the problem with KF over the last decade, minus 2009/2015 seasons. We will beat a great team, then lose to a crap one.

Not sure what you're seeing out there, but Phil Parker has actually gone away from the days of exclusively Cover 2 under Norm Parker. We play more of a quarters look now, with much more Cover 3 mixed in.

Also, I don't totally disagree with what you are saying, but equating the NFL and College Football just doesn't work. The NFL has evolved because every team will always be on largely the same level talent-wise, whereas in college there can still be a big gap between teams in the same conference even.

As for Saturday, I would argue we NEED to force the issue in the run game. Outside zone is the base of Iowa's entire offense, and we need to work out the kinks against a bad defense. Correct the issues against Illinois, and we might have found our run game again. If we don't it'll be a long season.

No, sorry I didn't mean us as defense in those schemes. I was comparing what the NFL for years used as the standard of West Coast o and Tamp Two D. its outdated and teams all have more or less their own versions and new twists. My point was Kirk has not changed his style and its outdated and no creativity its ....outdated, easy to defend.

Its like the Geico commercials.... Its what you do.

No matter what song the conductor calls for, they play the same song.

So no matter what they call in the huddle, they run the same play.

do you remember?

Bingo!!! We have a winner.

OMG!!! ROFLMAO!!! They should play that song every time the team comes out of the tunnel and while we are on offense running against eight in the box. LMAO......... tears........

If we were chucking the ball around the field people would be screaming bloody murder to run the ball. This is nature of college football fans. Let's face it, Iowa has lost 2 games and was 2 to 3 plays away from winning either one. It's a fine line. It's frustrating, but IMO not some telltale sign of mass overhauls needed.
