Fast pace, key to beating Badgers

It seems that Illinois, in the second half, put into play a fast-paced offense strategy, with no huddle, quick hits, etc. to upset the Badgers. Ohio State seemed to do the same with great success, add in they have NFL speed as well, which sets them apart from Illinois.

If this style of play is a big key to beating the Badgers there are several questions, it seems to me:

Will Kirk allow such a fast paced game plan to be put into place (with the higher risk) and higher reward?

Will BF, if he is allowed, be able to put this new style into play as still a somewhat inexperienced OC, at least with this style of play?

Will Stanley be able to take it from the drawing board and practice field into a game and make it work? Given the assumption the Badgers will be in his grill from the first snap.

Or will Kirk stick to Kirkball and try to grind out a win, running the clock down each play, and most always ready to punt or work for a FG attempt.

Thoughts?

Perhaps another question...will the offense jump at the chance to play this type of game rather than the lethargic, keep it safe, Kirkball?

Should be interesting...you have two weeks guys.
How about we start our best running back and make Young the short yardage back ?

I think the key is going to be the front four on defense. They are going to have to keep Coan in the pocket as well as make Taylor go sideline to sideline. We cant let Taylor have success up the middle and gouge us for 6-7 yards on first down. We have to know we cant win this game in the first quarter, but we can certainly lose it. I hope we commit to the run, protect Stanley and let him go to work because our best matchup on the field is Stanley vs. their secondary. As boring as it may be to some, we can't give up on the run too early and a 3-0, or 7-3 type game at halftime is a good thing.

As DC my play would be to take Iowa’s best defender, geno stone, and cheat him in to support the LBs in run support. His job is to not allow Jonathan Taylor to get in open space and help set an edge. Let Iowa’s corners play on islands with support from koerner deep.

Playing your best players, regardless of age, name, connection to deep pockets high rollers, or seniority...would be novel, (for Iowa) out of the box, coaching, I like it.

And running plays that work best against an opposing defensive tendency is nice too!

I think KF knows Wis is a tough road, especially there. His "4 game left, get ready for November" comment post-game instead of "we've got 2 weeks to get ready to play for 1st place" says if Iowa finished 9-3 that would be an excellent season.

Kirk will always under promise and be understated but I guarantee you he and staff are operating under the premise they can win. I would put money on Iowa, but hey if it’s an 11:00 kick and Iowa gets Brandon Smith back, it’s not impossible. Wisconsin is not Ohio state or Alabama.

Need to stop Taylor
Need to dare Coen to beat us with arm over the top.
Stanley needs to make some plays
No turnovers
Goodson needs 20 carries

Stopping Taylor isn't the issue. He had 148 against IL. Dominate the line on both sides which is exactly what IL did. On D we can. On O, no, unless the Hawks go away from tendencies and play like v OSU. If the try and "Ferentz" the BADgers, the BADger will out Ferentz Ferentz.

I look for the Hawks to do what they do. We will attempt to run the ball and then get into obvious pass situations. Wisky will blitz and Nate will get sacked. Same ol same ol and fans will be clearly frustrated. One thing Hawks fans can count on is Kirk....he ain't changing his philosophy for the Badgers or anyone for that matter. I see about 24 to 9 Badgers. Hope I'm wrong. Go Hawks

No, that would be the "deliberate" option...clock running, low scoring, change the play to a loss at the line.

Perhaps we will see "Opposite Kirk" in Madison.
He has no clue on how to do that and that is also a problem. Plus, don’t have the personnel for it and what we do have he doesn’t play them

Well, the nice thing is we have 2 weeks to gear up for the same, predictable Kirk and Brian show. Hmmm, what am I doing next weekend?

Wisconsin had 83 yds and 158 yds rushing in their two losses to OSU and ILL. Previous games all over 200 yds rushing (if memory serves) and Taylor for Heisman talk is done.

So you and I know exactly what Wisconsin is going to try to do.

And if they put 6-7 offensive linemen on the field along with 1-2 TEs like they did vs. Iowa then is Parker going to have a counter or just leave the 4-3 on the field?

I personally think Hawk's D keeps it a low scoring game. I could see it be a 17 to 9 type game whisky. The sad fact is we could be undefeated going into this game. Don't personally believe that wisc is anymore unbeatable than either Mich or P-state was and our D did very well on both. It will be lack of offense that seals the fate for Iowa and of course the what could of beens. Who knows, we're due for a break out game and just maybe......

Perhaps this will be the game where the Iowa offense carries the team to a victory...and it doesn't have to be on the back of the defense. 6-2 perhaps.

I'll say this....This game is Nate Stanleys referendum game. He'll have to go win this not not lose it and he hasn't been able to do that the last two years. Can he go and win a game? I hope for Nate and the guys he's able to have his best game as a hawk and be the best version of him out there. Here's the game for his legacy as our qb.

Agree, but perhaps it is more hope than based on fact, that will lead Iowa through a win at this signature/opportunity game. With Wisconsin's stumbles...the door is open. I am hoping Kirk/Nate/Brian don't slam the door on their fingers.

I’d like to see us in the 4-2-5 defense but bring two safeties up into the box to be a more 4-4-3 look. Keep JT under 100 yds. rushing with no big 20+ yd. gains. Bring the blitz off the ends the entire game cause I’m not concerned with Coan beating us with his arm or legs. Play up tempo on offense and give Tyler Goodson at least 25% of the touches in the first half. Quick drops and move the pocket by Stanley. Look for quick slants across the middle. Run jet sweeps with Goodson to get to the edge. Hit some of our RB out of the backfield on some wheel routes. Look for Sam LaPorta over the middle and on the outside. We haven’t ran a trick play, fake punt or fake field goal yet this year. Is this the game they’ve been waiting to run one? Maybe. Play turnover free on offense and forcing turnovers on defense is a must. After the last two games the Badgers have had, its important to get them chase the ball all over the field. Wear them down by making them cover everything. I’d also use a quick count for first half and then stagger it more in the second half causing them to jump more.
