Fans Aren't More Disappointed Than Guys Playing the Game

The coaches are the ones responsible for teaching fundamentals and recruiting the players they believe they can teach to be better. It's a developmental program, meaning the coaches need to develop the players they choose to recruit. The players certainly are not without fault, but in college football, where the coaches make a lot of money to decide who to bring into the program and then coach them up, they should receive the brunt of the responsibility when things don't go well. Two years ago, KF won the Dodd national coach of the year award when things were going well. Now, he and his staff are on the hook for the failures. That's how it works, IMO.

Fair enough explanation, thanks, Rob.

In college football you have to lay the blame at the feet of the guys getting paid. No doubt there. But I think you bring up a very valid point. This season, more than other frustrating seasons, I've noticed player mistakes that just make you shake your head.

In defense of all involved, some of the mistakes are "eagerness", i.e, firing off the ball for a false start, "running" before actually "catching", etc. I'd rather have a guy get a false start for five yards due to grit and determination versus giving up a sack for 15 yards because of being hesitant.

If it makes the players feel better I never boo, that's bush league behavior not for college football. I will though critique the coaching staff. They're the ones getting paid millions of dollars. You never heard Fry blame his players.

I think it would be human nature for players to question coaches at times. I don’t think Wadley is happy with how he’s being used this season but I also think he realizes that coming and out bitching about it publicly isn’t going to accomplish anything.

False - it would get Toren Young some reps and get him ready for next year.

Don't think it's a given that Young is the starter next season. At best for him, I think it's a time share with IKM.

Blame the players....he didnt. He did take a shot at Vlasic when the media was hammering him with questions about why not play Vlasic over Long as Vlasic had a stronger arm. His comment was something like....Vlasic shows his arm strength everyday in practice by over throwing recievers. He was quite terse about it. I personally thought Vlasic was better.

That said, HF was pretty good about having backups ready.

I think itscsad that KF put the program in position to be booing. Its not an insignicant deal financially for a parent to take a couple of kids to a game.

If it was truly about being young, about a new OC making a few critical mistakes costing a game or two, about being generally conservative but building to a goal.....then the booing would be too much.

Iowa has shown what they can do.

What we are getting on the field is boo worthy. Its not even close to being good football. I feel bad for what the coach has put them into.

How many booers would boo if the felt a good coaching effort and player effort was on the field. Iowa is a premium ticket. If you want a joke team...charge laughable prices.

It's a really small window of time for them to make memories that last a lifetime.

I remember Albert Young telling me how awful he felt leaving Kinnick following his last game hearing boos after losing to Western Michigan. It's part of the deal but it's tough on them.

The guys looked worn out today. I think this season has weighed heavily on them.

Especially the defense. :(

There’s a chance. He’ll need to hop over four scholarship RBs to do so, but IKM forced his way in this year.

To be honest, I'm disappointed at how IKM was used this season; meaning, under used. I thought it would have been smart to use all 4 rb's this season, 2 at a time. But, I'm not the experienced OC or HC. :)

But the reason I was wondering about Geil, is because of his size.

Everybody's kind of forgetting about Bryan. I loved his film coming in, and he could be a real sleeper, but, I also really liked Young and IKM. Plus, we will have Toks coming off his redshirt year. This could be the best stable of RBs that we've had in some time, assuming they all stay. Ultimately, I wouldn't be surprised if Toks or Bryan transfers but I hope it doesn't happen, especially Bryan. If neither happens, I look for Geil to redshirt.

Who's the "experienced OC?"

Truthfully Rob, I’d be disappointed if the players were only dissapointed. My hope is they’re pissed of at being 6-5 going into today.

It's probably defined differently by each player. I'm sure they're mad/pissed/upset along with being disappointed. I think it will be remember like '05, '06, '10 in terms of what could have been.

I wouldn’t take it to mean they’ll roll over in Lincoln. And it’s not like the ‘85 Bears are waiting for them there.
No you were right Rob. The 85 Bears weren’t waiting and neither were the 85 Memeber Husker team. Clearly they gave up the ship once we got out in front.
