Fans Aren't More Disappointed Than Guys Playing the Game

@RobHowe has explained it a million times, it's not about going easy on coaches or not wanting to get "credentials pulled" (has that ever happened?), it's the fact that no matter what you ask, if Ferentz doesn't like the question you're not going to get the answer you want. He just won't answer it.

If you want to see for yourself call in to the radio show. I'm assuming you haven't listened to it before, because if you had you would know that he will answer those sorts of questions even more vaguely than a question from a reporter during a presser.

If you think you or a reporter is going to make a Big Ten football coach uncomfortable, or if you think he doesn't already know a whole bunch of fans hate him, you're in left field. You don't coach in a P5 conference for 20 years without not giving a shit what people think about you.
As I stated in my post, I'm fully aware that the answers generally end up being meaningless vague deflections, and I never accused anyone of being "easy" on the coaches or expressed worries about credentials being "pulled," so don't lump me in with previous conversations on the topic that may have occurred the last several years, of which I wasn't a participant.

I was simply agreeing that the coordinators, not referencing Kirk and his 20 years of experience, should be made available to the press, but added that I would like to see the press push a little harder at times. Whether the answers are satisfactory or not, at least the fact that they are thrown out there can be a little cathartic for frustrated fans.

If I'm a reporter and have to write articles to pay my heat bill, it doesn't make sense for me to ask questions that won't get answered.

If you want a little catharsis, call into the radio show. Seriously. You can ask the guy in the flesh why he sucks at calling a football game and why his coordinators aren't allowed to answer questions but the players are forced to.

If reporters in the White House press room never asked a question that they knew wouldn't be answered forthrightly or lead to a pivot, the only sounds in the room would be bodily functions.

huck, i have not seen anyone on this board bashing players, especially, for not trying hard. your comment is simply unwarranted and argumentative. so, i'll take the bait. fans are overwhelmingly tired of the failures of this staff and the hc, in particular. fans are upset that our staff mismanages games, game plans, personnel decisions and game day, on a routine basis. fans are tired of beating OSU, UM and PSU, then losing to little sisters of the poor. Fans are tired of "winning one we shouldn't and losing one we shouldn't. Being critical of a player that drops a pass or misses a block or tackle is not railing on players and isn't an inherent call to question of their determination, dedication or integrity.

So please stop with the straw man argument that fans who have legitimate beefs with this staff, born over 19 years of evidence, are simultaneously railing against the players.

As for Albert Young, yeah, that would suck and it would hurt. But that is life and something I'd bet he learned from. When you have a job to do, you need to do it well or someone will point it out. And, you can't please all of the people all of the time. And, you must persevere through the tough times. Do you think hearing boos is as bad as having a boss angry with your job performance, and letting you know it, while you're thinking about supporting your wife and kids?

In retrospect, I did overstate the attacks on players. I have seen some pretty specific comments, though, and those are upsetting to me. No "bait" was intended.

I understand and share the frustrations of the fans this year. When a team shows the ability to play some really good football, and then lays some big eggs, all of us get pretty testy. Iowa's run game, or lack thereof, has been a big target this year, and is a well deserved criticism. I expect the coaches to remedy that problem pretty darn quickly.

The ongoing negative posts about the coaching staff and the overall quality of our players is redundant and frankly, annoying. It seems to be a fairly well defined group that keeps harping, and the same crew has already started in on Fran's BB team. For the record, I am not adverse to criticism of coaching staffs and share some of your views about the state of Iowa football. I coached the sport in some big high schools where the pressure was significant and have a pretty clear picture of both sides of the coin.

First and foremost DON'T read my posts snowflake. you obviously don't read all my posts. What Rick Heller has done with the baseball program is nothing short of amazing. Lisa Bluder does a solid job....while we are not a threat to win a national championship anytime soon she has recruited well and the team is competitive. Even what KF and staff has done like 2 seasons ago was amazing and he absolutely did rebuild the Iowa football program. If you can find a bunch of negative posts during that season please pull and post. Although I may have called out a particular individual for specific performance related actions I don't attack anyone personally. My comment about the punter isn't all on the poor kid punting. But yes when the 2015-16 PPK winner who was a girl punted 31.2 yards and a D1 college athlete can't avg. better than that yeah that's a failed performance. And NO KF doesn't accept responsibility most of the time so your take is just that yours. When questioned about certain in game calls he has been short on explanation many times. At least Andy Reid just flat out says yep bad game plan my fault.

The biggest snowflakes are the ones who get defensive when someone disagrees with them. See Trump Tweets.

Lol. You lost me at politics.

I was willing to play along but now you’re really stretching your example into farcicalville.

Comparing a guy coaching a game played by kids to the White House press secretary is sketchy at best, and actually just comedic.

The truth of the matter is that you’re mad about something you can’t control, and you want a reporter to throw your vicarious hissy fit for you. Which is especially absurd when there is a direct avenue for you to throw your temper tantrum in person to the guy you don’t like. That’s exactly why they have the call-in coach’s show. Are you afraid you’ll sound like a buffoon on air? No reporter in the world is going to go in a press room and ask nothing but rhetorical questions like you want them to. Like it or not, it will never happen.

I don’t like Ferentz either but no matter how much bitching I do, nothing’s going to change nor is Kirk or his staff going to take me seriously for half a second.

I think most of the criticism stems from the total and complete lack of accountability that Kirk Ferentz has while making millions and millions of dollars. The administration and donors just keep on forking over the cash by the suitcase full

There’s something fundamentally wrong with giving a person a long-term, often-renewed, high dollar contract and not requiring commensurate results. I understand you’re defensiveness in that these are just kids and football is just a game, but these kids knew what they signed up for when they started, and like it or not NCAA football is at it’s core a gigantic money machine that has nothing to do with education and people aren’t wrong to expect accountability.

I challenge you to find a coach who’s made the kind of money Ferentz has made over the last decade with a W/L record as mediocre over that same period of time.

It was meant as a light-hearted joke. If you can't see that, well, whatever. Either way, the principle is the same so it's a reasonable analogy, and actually not a stretch at all. Trying to characterize me as some emotionally unstable buffoon that wants to have a "hissy fit" is the reach, and only reveals your character.

I'm not mad or having a temper tantrum, and, for the third time, I'm not talking about questions for Kirk specifically. I was simply agreeing with the proposed idea of regular press conferences with the coordinators, and posited that it would be refreshing to see more pointed questions. Nothing more than that. I'm certainly not losing any sleep over it.

and....back to the original thread.

The players believe in KFz or they wouldn't be at IOWA. That being said, I'd be curious what some of them might say off the record and away from the locker room about his game management and offensive approach. I can't believe all these guys have consumed so much KFz-aid that they are blind to the repetitive ineptitude of his offenses.

Then again, maybe this is why we recruit 2* and low level 3* players. They are happy to be in the B1G playing in front of 70k fans. And they abide by the company line.

OR maybe Im just overthinking the players attitudes.

I think it would be human nature for players to question coaches at times. I don’t think Wadley is happy with how he’s being used this season but I also think he realizes that coming and out bitching about it publicly isn’t going to accomplish anything.

I wouldn’t take it to mean they’ll roll over in Lincoln. And it’s not like the ‘85 Bears are waiting for them there.

Nebbys defense hasn't stopped anyone, but our offense has shown it can stop itself. Will need to be able to run and catch the ball.

Nebby will score some points. 17-20 points for Iowa won't cut it.
