Faith Commits

At about the 29 sec mark I chubbed up abit.

Faith is a great get and I would like to welcome him! He is a quality student and an excellent athlete with D1 size and strength. Great get by the coaching staff. Kirk made a personal visit in the last 24 hours and it paid off!

Did you read his blog? Sounds like he would have gone to Oregon if they didnt fill up or NW if his GPA was a little higher.
While I dont disagree that the staff likely worked hard to get him here, and I'm thrilled about it, but it definately sounds like Iowa was his third choice.

Yes I read it and you clearly don't know how the process works. Having a son who went thru the process a year ago I have some insight you lack. IT'S A PROCESS OF ELIMINATION. You don't have 5 schools and then keep flipping a coin until you arrive at a final choice. You let the schools eliminate themselves and then find out who is really committed to you - the athlete. Iowa was more committed to him and that's why he didn't jump on the Oregon offer when it was first offered. He never said Iowa was a fall-back, nor did he say he would've chosen Northwestern over Iowa if they had admitted him. That's your low self-esteem talking, not Faith.

That is a really neat video. The play where he intercepts the ball is really impressive and he shows a good burst off the line from what I can tell!

He seems like a really nice kid (Maybe too nice! He seemed to want to bring down the QB gently in some of those clips. ;) ) and the fact that he is used to being independent and not relying on his parents to do everything really is a plus. Also he made his decision based on a lot of important factors and not just football, which is very wise. I don't think he will have any problems staying at Iowa for his entire college career.

I haven't followed the Iowa football recruiting scene too closely this year, but this seems like a really great get and I am excited to have him.

Welcome aboard!
Go Hawks!

For those saying that Iowa was his 3rd or 4th choice or whatever......you don't know that! Sure he states that he was looking at those places hard, even to the point of maybe giving a commitment. He was just taking you through the process of elimination. Doesn't mean he would have committed to either of those. We all have seen recruits enamored with every visit they go to and almost commit in many situations. Once they finish the visit and return home though things often change. Now I'm not saying that Iowa didn't benefit from some of the circumstances, but he was by no means going to commit to those schools. Was he thinking about it? Yes. Would he have? We have no idea. In the meantime why don't people just celebrate the commitment for Iowa. Instead I've seen the talk of what choice Iowa was and how he won't see the field next year. Who gives a damn about that right now.

Lets get this out of the way, Duff has no idea what he's talking about. Is he going to make an immediate impact? That would be very unlikely. However, he has the right mentality and a body that Doyle can work with. Give the kid a couple of years before you jump to conclusions.

Sounds like we got pretty lucky to get him considering we were his 3rd choice. Who cares though, after the season the Hawks just had they are going to need a little luck to field a solid recruiting class.

looks to me like the coaches are finally addressing the undersized DL problems. Don't get me wrong, we've had great play in recent years from smaller interior lineman, but Faith is 270ish and Johnson 290. seems like maybe this is needed to runstop and take some pressure off of the backers. hopefully they can add a little more bulk and get around that 300 mark. reminds me of the MSU game when cousins fumbled the snap 3 times and we had no one near the ball cuz they were getting pushed off the ball. JMO.

Yeah, lets just get this out of the way now. Dudes not going to see significant, if any, snaps on the d line and if he does he will be completely physically over matched.

I believe Duff was talking about 2012 only. I'm sure he wasn't saying that Faith would never see any snaps in his career.

I just think it's funny he has a blog. Who still has a blog? Can I read it on his myspace account? I tried searching for it on Alta Vista but couldn't find it.

Question: DT or DE.

We now have 3 DE in this class, 2 of them only weigh 220 lbs, so they are a few years in the making. What about the JUCO Sheffiled.

I could see Faith at DE or DT, I honestly hope DE. With Davis, Cooper, and Johnson at DT we could use him at DE and have some size out there for a change. Clayborn esque

i would think DT, with a
D-L of
SDE Ott to be added
DT Johnson 295
DT Ekakitie 285
WDE Venkus to be added

oh by the way with Faiths committ Iowa just moved into #50 from #62 on Rivals

that's just from this year. What about Cooper, and Davis and McMinn? They'll have a say in things. What if you can have

SDE OTT
DT Johnson 295
DT Cooper 290/ Davis 305
WDE Ekakite 285

That could be a pretty good DL and big. Both Ott and Venkus are going to take a frew years to get ready/ add weight.

We also have Dom Alvis for 2 years at DE.

I don't think it's a slam Dunk he's a DT with arguably "better" recruits at DT we may need a good one to slide out.

just showed what we have on board now for D-L recruits
did not say they would be starters coming out of the gate
could be the starting line when they are Sr's after everybody else graduates

True, I'm just wondering where he'll start at. Maybe he'll be a Ballard type and move around. Just hope we can keep this depth going.

Great to have Faith on board, obviously our greatest area of need right now. I'm beginning to wonder how many more D-lineman we can take in this class. You have Johnson, Ekakitie, Ott, and Venckus already in the fold with the coaches out pursuing Trace Clark, Nate Lohn and Jake Sheffield. Do we still have an offer out to Aaron Curry? I just wonder how many spots we have left in a 20-22 player class for D-Line. Exciting, just want to be able to sustain the future and not have a repeat of a great class graduating (2010) and the cupboard being too empty afterward to field four B1G quality d-line (2011).

From what I read on ESPN it seems like Iowa is out for Trace Clark, but Lohn is still in the mix, though he is waiting to hear if he got into Stanford or not before he decides. So there is that writing on the wall.

I could see them taking either of those 2 guys for a bigger DE prospect and taking Sheffield who wouldhave 2 years of eligibility and allow for some of these other guys who are not physically ready to develop.

also Faith is 13/22 so still have 9 spots I believe after the defections last week.
