Fair weather crown at Minny

Is it truly warm? That seems to be counter to my logic. I get the wind break will reduce the cold, but you are still on the middle of a frozen lake. Am I missing something here?
If you’re in what’s called a permanent house (not permanent but looks like an enclosed trailer) it’s as comfortable as you can afford. My boss has an Ice Castle (google it) with a 60” big screen, surround sound, a bar, 2 couches, stove, oven, bathroom, kitchen table, card table, and sleeps 8 people. Recessed LED lighting all over the place. He put a clear livewell in the wall that looks like an aquarium, and hooked his underwater camera up to the big screen. He also has $50K in the whole setup so take that for what it’s worth.

I use a 2 man portable flip over and have just as much fun fishing in that as I do a permanent (I catch more fish too because I can move). In the winter it’s every weekend, both days for my 10 year old and I. Finding a GF who’ll put up with that is about impossible but I did somehow.

I've been on northern MN lakes ice fishing. Been in the ice shanties where one could be in a T shirt and shorts. I've actually stayed in the shanties from Thursday nights to Sunday afternoon. One just has to get to it, but once there is usually very comfortable.

You fish inside heated shelters on the frozen lake. The ice is so thick you can drive your trucks on the lake so you usually hook a shelter on a trailer and drive it out on the ice and plant it down. Then you cover the base of the shelter with snow to block out the wind and you have a space heater inside the shelter to keep the place warm.

Usually what we then do is drill a couple holes into the ice inside the shelter to fish inside, meanwhile set up tip-ups all around the shelter outside and then check them every so often. If the flag goes up, you have a bite. Meanwhile you sit inside your warm shelter and drink and play cards and stuff.

YEP!!

Yeah, I've seen some nice shacks. But really....if you're into ice fishing you either reeeeally like to fish, or your home life is pretty bad. LOL

Yeah its not my thing but I married into it
<<snickers>>
Sorry, made me laugh cuz it sounds like you're agreeing with drummer about home life.

Actually the way you describe it -- it sounds kinda fun.

Ya I guess my thoughts were related to the idea of a heating element on a sheet of ice lol. Seems like potential for trouble, but I guess there are dynamics that keep melting from being an issue. Especially if guys are parking castles on the ice lol.

So what's your point - both hotter than Mary Ferentz!

Gophers beat the Hawks by 7.
Sounds like you're having trouble rowing the boat.

Went ice fishing once in Wis. Drove my car onto the lake and over to the ice house. It was below zero but 60 plus degrees inside. Never caught a fish but had a steak and American fries dinner with beer and wine to wash it all down. Yep, I was roughing it!
