Fact or Fiction....Iowa's Defense would hold Ohio St under 30 points

As much as I hate to say it, I don't think so. The main reason is that our offense would not be able to score or control the ball and they would destroy Stanley. On offense, OSU has so many weapons, and not just weapons, but weapons that can go 80 yards. Atleast 3 receivers, RB and QB are all elite, and that QB can make all the throws. I don't see anyone defending them with scheme, they would have to be defended with talent and we don't have that kind of talent. I think OSU is the best team in the country by a long ways.

I agree that we would be stressed, because of our offense, but I think we would make them earn every yard.
It wouldn't be easy, that's for sure.
 
No chance. I just saw them out-Wisconsin the Badgers by beating them at their own game. It was methodical, slow grinding Chinese water torture. Orr and Daum were getting home early, Wisconsin was controlling field position and time of possession, it was Wisconsin's kind of game well into the third quarter, and then suddenly you looked up and it was 24-7, then 31-7.

Chase Young would be a one man wrecking crew on our O-line, our accounting for him would probably turn other players loose, and Stanley would be forced to eat the ball a ton to avoid risking the turnover. This was Chryst's apparent strategy-dont risk a bad throw and take the sack. He didn't, however, take two forced QB fumbles into account

They were shutting Taylor down. Think of what they would do to our backs.

Bottom line. This buckeye team is just too deep and too talented. Imagine what the result would have been if tOSU could really have gotten things rolling theiir way. Wisconsin did everything in their power to shorten the game, minimize the risk of the turnover, do everything we would do, and it still got away from them late. I say all this with the benefit of a first hand account because I was at the game.

Ohio State vs Penn State now looks like a Marquee matchup. PSU will have the best speed and athleticism OSU has faced all season. We'll see if Franklin can hold the chaps to under 30.
 
I would bet "no" - this is a good Defense, not a great one in the scale of great D's at Iowa. They've played 3 of the worst offenses in all of college football this season in NW, Rutgers and Miami of Ohio. TOSU is dominating the league like it never has. I think they can score as much as they want on nearly any defense they play.
 
I think the biggest problem may be with turnovers or special teams mistakes/returns given up, which would put the defense in a big hole. On the other hand, I feel like OSU knows they can hold Iowa to minimal points, so they may not feel the need to take chances and play it a bit more safe. I do like Iowa to hold them under 30 offensive points, and I think it would play out much like the OSU/PSU game (which obviously hasn't been played yet).
 
I don't think I have ever, EVER, seen a team with 5 first downs to the other teams 16 and yet still have a time of possession edge. But that where we were at one point in the third quarter Saturday and a pretty good indicator of what Wisconsin was trying, ultimately unsuccessfully, to do.
 
Fact. Side note, Ohio State would hold Iowa’s offense under 3. Any offensive Iowa points would come from PATs resulting from defensive touchdowns.

Those turnovers would also be the only way Iowa's O could make "under 30" relevant.

Without them, I think the question would be more like could the D hold them under 20.
 
No.

Iowa's O would not stay on the field long enough...the D would wear down and the boat race would begin.

See USC orange bowl or the Wisconsin game last saturday.
 
With a competent offense, maybe. In the meantime ...
