Expansion Crazy Talk: UNC and Kansas to the Big 10?

North Carolina and Kansas... maybe we will be able to keep some of our decent basketball players in-state.

Pretty sure Kansas legislature made a law that KU and KSU have to stay together.

And I thought this was determined to be false during the last round of expansion talk.

And here is the answer:

From the article:
Kansas chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little said last week that Kansas and Kansas State are not necessarily connected should the Big 12 dissolve, but McKechnie said the Board would prefer that the two schools stick together

With the exception of the Lickliter years, we've been able to hang with the big boys of the conference. It would definitely raise the bar in the conference but it wouldn't turn us into bottom dwellers. Only horrible coaching could do that.

Big difference between hanging with the big boys in the old days, and hanging with Indiana, MSU, UNC, KU, OSU, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Maryland when the program is only just getting back on its feet.

The whole expansion thing used to be about football--that's why we took Nebraska.

I don't think it is anymore. We didn't take Rutgers and Maryland for their football programs, or their great tradition.

Maybe the calculation was made that the Big Ten is a strong-enough football conference. Maybe the current members said, "No more great football programs."

Maybe the BTN needs higher ratings in December, January, and February.

Maybe the next picks will also be basketball schools: KU and UNC would fit.
