College Football: Ricky Stanzi of the Iowa Hawkeyes may be the best passer in America - ESPN
I know it is insider, and I don't want to get in trouble for posting the whole thing, but here is the conclusion.
As great of a season as Newton is having, he still ranks behind Stanzi in passer rating against ranked foes (167.86 for Stanzi, 150.25 for Newton), passer rating against teams from automatic qualifying BCS conferences (161.20 to 160.88), and passer rating versus FBS teams with winning records (161.08 to 147.04).
Newton's rushing prowess certainly gives him a significant statistical edge, but from a pure passing standpoint Stanzi is every bit his equal and then some. A player of that caliber should find his way to some form of postseason honor and not be relegated to afterthought status because of his team's record.
