Hawkeyes land four-star forward
The Iowa basketball program picked up their first verbal commitment in the Class of 2026. That player is Ethan Harris, a four star forward.

According to Rivals.com, Harris is a consensus four star prospect and the 96th overall best player in the Class of 2026. He is ranked specifically by Rivals.com as the 65th best player in this class and the 11th best power forward.

IMO, Gonzaga has slipped a bit, ever since they lost super recruiter Tommy Lloyd to Arizona. It seems to me they are trying to shake things up a bit by moving to the Pac 12 .

Your opinion because they missed the sweet 16 for the first time in 5 years? Thanks for someone making this post but look at what Gonzaga has done in the last season beyond last year.

Getting a kid like that to say no to Gonzaga and Washington??? Ben is turning heads in the basketball world. First landing the TN kid how he did now this is a big time get. Ben loves his 6'8-6'9 versatile guys who can play the 3-4 spots and defend. Which is what I've read this kid is really good at.
Ben is recruiting nationally and not just pigeon holing himself geographically at all. I have to admit when we lost the Storm Lake kid to Creighton I wasn't feeling the best but Ben knows what he's doing. I'm certainly gonna let him cook for a while before crying too much over a lost recruit here or there.

Both Ben and Jan have their recruiting targets set at a high level. As a fan, I'm excited that both are doing this. If successful we'll have some fun years ahead of us.
Yup he's got a couple guards in the hopper he's working on next it sounds like. And Jan might be landing a top 5ish player pretty soon possibly... That's on top of landing Deal and Hays from last yr. Jan is absolutely cooking too. Things are looking up for the basketball programs

That was a bit of a head scratcher for me also since Storm Lake is literally Ben's backyard. Needless to say this will be one of the more intriguing coaching hire's for Iowa Basketball. It's always an unknown situation when a new coach comes in.
Lickliter's offenses were very poor but man could he take the air out of the ball and keep scores low and put fans to sleep. Ben expects his players to play defense, but from what I have seen he also isn't afraid to fast break when opportunities exist.
I am kind of curious as to which coaches in Iowa past going back to the late mid to late 70's will resemble Ben's style of play? If I had to guess (at this point that is all it is) I would say Lute Olsen. Strong defense and very well trained in ball distribution leading to many in the paint shots for Iowa offense. One of Lute's most successful team's consisted with very well trained and disciplined players and a super star guard in Ronnie Lester................ hmmm???

Sorry but if I have a chance to play basketball at either Iowa or Creighton it ain’t gonna be Iowa.
You ever gone to a game there? Total polar opposite of the 1/3rd full assisted living facility that is Carver Hawkeye Arena. It’s loud, raucous, the fans are crazy, better arena in a great location with easy in and out, ask @InGoodCo if you don’t believe me.
NIL is gonna be better there too.
You’re going to have to sell me harder on going to play at Iowa other than being born in Storm Lake.
Ben also had had a relationship with the kid he'd been recruiting him to Drake for awhile. But Creighton came in waving a bunch of NIL $ at him and I think that was that for him. Woulda been a great fit for us but there's going to be other options. Lots of 6'6 wing guys out there he'll find another. He found the diamond of all diamonds with Stirtz. I'll give him a chance to find another

If born in Storm Lake you may have had dreams of playing for Iowa. I see your point though. NIL has changed pretty much everything with recruiting but there are still kids out there that have that dream.
Kids today are growing up differently. There's a heck of a lot less and less of that going on then say the last 10-20 yrs plus ago. If Iowa offered me a scholly at 16/17 I'd have committed on the spot. I wouldn't have entertained anything else. I woulda easily done the same thing Jeff Horner/Dean Oliver did if I was in their shoes. But that's not happening anymore.
Kids with die hard parents that are fans of programs I'm sure may inherit some of that. But these kids nowadays are way more into the business side of it all. NIL/how soon can they play and what'll their role be are all things that seem to be at the top of the list for D1 level athletes now. The country is smaller now with social media/tv all how it is. When I was younger not everyone had cable/dish and could watch half the games. We had to listen to a lot of radio and read articles in papers/magazines. Anyone under 20 crack open a Sports illustrated or Sporting News to read week old info nowadays?
Kids may prioritize those a little differently cause the the Trey Thompson kid we got we didn't get him because we out bid everyone with NIL $. We got him cause we had room on short notice for him to reclassify and come on. Along with he loved the culture/vibe that Ben has started he sold him on all that. So he'll have an opportunity to play early on for us but I don't think it's a given he'll start or be a day 1 major contributor. Yet the opportunity is there. There's no telling how much the Purdues and TNs woulda been able to pay him had he chose to go to either of them next yr.
