I have a black one too, only because my skin was too dark to do both black and gold. It also faces in the opposite direction that one of the posters disagrees with. So i guess i should probably just chop off my arm.
 
I don't like it backwards either. In fact, I had my Herky tattoo done on my left arm for the specific reason of having him face the correct direction.

Hawks only fly to the east, H8. Therefore, the TigerHawk must face to the right (since all maps are Eurocentric with Europe on the top of the map).

It makes no difference to me which color or way the tiger hawk is, but I have to chuckle a little bit when I see a black tiger hawk with gold outline rub-on decal on the back windows of vehicles. I nearly bought one of those too since they DO look sweet in the store, then I remembered that black on a tinted window would NOT look sweet and opted for the gold one with the black outline. Imagine their disgust when they take the time to rub it on and uncover it only to see that all that is visible was the gold outline.
 
I hate it when they just use one color, looks bland and sophomoric. ESPN et all need to use a TigerHawk that is gold with a black outline. Adding depth to the logo would be nice too.

Never let the Iowa marketing dept. do anything with it though; I think they're responsible for the godawful crackhawk. Still see that thing oon crap merchandise floating around flea markets in okoboji. Wish my mom could tell the difference. It's not like she hasn't had season tickets for 30 years. Let's face it folks, women + football just is never going to equal savvy. As long as my wife doesn't get in the way of me enjoying it, I don't care!

the gold one is good to, if it is just left as a stencil, without any trim, but the usually kill it by putting a bunch of ugly black trim around each of the pieces. With either color, the logo itself should be monotone

I think you mean monochromatic or monochrome. One thing the tigerhawk is NOT, and that's hard of hearing.
