ESPN Poll: Iowa ties for second as most "most disappointing" B1G team

Interesting. Illinois and Ohio State just hired new coaches. Iowa? Same ol', same ol' conservative, no-risk play. Except we'll have a new defensive coordinator. New being used advisedly, depending upon who is hired.

Guess I can't really disagree with the fact it was somewhat of a disappointing season at 7-5. Hoping we make it a little better at 8-5.

How many returning starters did Iowa have this year? Where did that rank in the Big Ten in that regard coming into the year? BTW -- who won the Big Ten and how many starters did they have returning for this year? Do you think Wiscy will win the Big Ten next year with all those starters leaving? Will expectations be high for Wiscy because they are defending champs? Will we classify them as failures for a 7-5 season in 2013?

Maybe expectations were unreasonable by the Iowa fans and the people who cover the sports as reporters?

Chet.

Anyone paying attention had Iowa pegged as a 7-5 team going into the season so I find it hard to call Iowa a disappointment.

You can't disagree? That poll is a complete sham.

Let's take a stroll though the Big 10 shall we...

Illinois started off 6-0 and finished 6-6. That's disappointing.

Indiana went 1-11 (0-8) that's disappointing

PSU started off 9-1 (6-0) and finished 9-3 (6-2), missed the Big 10 championship game, dropped all the way down to the ticket city bowl, and I seem to recall something about a gigantic scandal that got their coach fired. I think that would qualify as disappointing.

Thee Ohio State University in case some of you had forgotten had won or shared 6 straight Big 10 championships coming into this year. That number is interesting because that's how many games they won this year. Even if OSU started only their backups they should never win less than seven games.

This vote would have made more sense after the 2010 season. But given the schedule of tomato cans Iowa played this year, probably should have done better.

2010 was one of the most disappointing Iowa teams in quite some time. This years team, not so much so at least for those of us that had realistic expectations for this team.

Northwestern has easily the more disappointing year. People were talking about them as a potential darkhorse with a Heisman candidate quarterback at the beginning of the year.

I'm wondering if this year's season would have been viewed in the same light had Iowa lost the Insight Bowl, which was a real possibility save for an interception or two, and a very close call on a Mizzou completion that was overturned after considerable review.

Had Iowa lost to Mizzou, the entire tone of the offseason would have been different on this board. Much more negative, particularly with 4 straight losses to end the season.

Its amazing what a win in what basically amounts to an exibition game can do to a fan base.

We played with the best of them. We took ISU and Minny right down to the wire and that is nothing to be ashamed of. These two teams are up and coming programs that will be very powerful. I wont ever be dissapointed when we can go toe to toe with them. We as Iowa fans have been lucky to see some of Kirks huge wins over these programs, but it is just silly to think we can beat them every year.

Amen, tighten up a few things, execute a little better against MN, ISU, PSU and Nebraska and this was an 11-1 team. Add in some lucky bounces against MSU and we would have been 12-0. This team is right up there, we just missed some opportunities and this board totally melted down.

I had this team somewhere around 8-4 or 9-3. Have this exact same season, except just beat Minnesota (too much to ask?) and the team would've been 8-4. Maybe 9-3 would've been a stretch.. But anyhow, I found this season to be somewhat disappointing. But last year, FAR moreso.

Not for me, the Insight Bowl made last year more bearable and it showed what could have been. That was a damn good Missouri team Iowa beat in that Insight Bowl but that was last year. Again those that had reasonable expectations for this years team knew it was going to be a struggle especially considering you lost 3 players on the Dline to the NFL draft. Last years team was loaded, not so much this year.

Wiscy's title had much less to do with the number of returning starters than it did with Russell Wilson. That team is 7-5/8-4 without Wilson.

Any team that loses to Minny has to have a disappointing season. Losing to one of the worst teams in college football two years in a row is inexcusable.

I would say that Penn State had the more disappointing season, ya' know, considering how their entire program collapsed under the weight of a criminal conspiracy?

Correct me if Im wrong but weren't there a crap load of Persastrong for Heisman billboards? How the hell are they less disappointing?
