ESPN/Katz Article: Iowa Not Shying from Expectations

That's nice.

That's nice...

You guys need to stop being so nice, but are giving no reasons for your positions.

While last years Indiana team would have the advantage at the post (as good as Woody is, Zeller is better), I'll take this year's Iowa team. It would be a push at the point, but every where else, Iowa will have the advantage, including the bench. Plus Iowa played Indiana way too close. The Hawks will be a much better team this year.

Just my 2¢ .. ..

GO HAWKS!!!

That's just categorically wrong.

Ok, guys, lets be honest.....IU had two guys drafted in the top 10. Oladipo was #2 or #3? We have no players in that territory, period. IU had 4 thousand point scorers on that squad. They had all frosh guy in Yogi at pg. Sheehey was 6th man of the year. That team was loaded, except at the coaching spot. If Fran had that team last year, he goes to the FF and probably wins the whole thing. Iowa has a deeper team, but not as talented.

OK .. I'll admit I forgot about Oladipo. I still like this years team.

GO HAWKS!!!

You forgot the #2 NBA pick, Big 10 defensive player of the year, a 13/6 guy....and you still won't make the obvious pick?

Are your fan goggles seriously that foggy, or did you suffer a blow to head recently? I only propose the latter because of your previous comment.

I didn't say Iowa's team is more talented this year than Indiana's team last year. I said I prefer this year's team. Indiana was able to win because of their overwhelming talent level. When they had to play a team with comparable talent and a better coach they weren't really competitive from the opening tip and their season ended.

We have the better coach IMO so I will take Iowa. We have better team chemistry IMO so I will take Iowa. As I said elsewhere in another post I prefer team depth to 2 stars so I will take Iowa. Iowa may also have four 1,000 point scorers...won't know for a 2 or 3 years. I'm not going to apologize for liking our team this year better than Indiana's team last year...not sure why I would even consider it.

Nope .. .. I'm fine. We are deeper than Indiana last year. MUCH deeper. Indiana had 2 of the top 10 NBA picks last year. So what?? Iowa can run them off the floor. And, as mentioned by Windsor, Iowa has the better coach.

I stand by what I said. I'll take this years Hawks. I MAY be proven wrong in 7 months, but I doubt it.

GO HAWKS!!!

Bluecrew , you da man! Bodyslamming awesome!

Not sure why this comparison is even taking place. The Hawks need Marble or someone to step up and take over games late. Crazy stuff can happen last 2:00 min a of a game. I have a fear of the team being on the wrong side of too many close games this year if they can build big leads.

C'mon, this years Iowa team isn't as good as Indiana was last year.

Based on what on what we now... I would agree. Really is kind of stupid to even debate it until it's known how much players have improved and what Utoff and Jok bring to the table as a proven commodity vs. specualtion. I also agree that IU was a more of a 2 man show than what most want to believe though. When Zeller was struggling IU had a rough time of it... a deep team can typically absorb that. The real question is more about how deep is Iowa truly is... We really won't know until about the 3rd or 4th week of B1G play. Might have a hint or two based on the tournaments and such, but the B1G is where the truth will be revealed.

Good grief, when you have those two Indiana had, you don't need to be super deep. I mean seriously, a rough time of it? They lost 7 games last year! They were a #1 seed. They won the best conference in the country.

IU didn't struggle that much last season. Great players are better than a bunch of good players. I am not saying Iowa won't be very good next season, but they won't be anywhere near as good as Indiana last year. To even entertain the comparison is laughable.

Love to argue much or just flaming because you have nothing else better to do? Might need to learn how read posts better... Where did I say IU struggled much? I said - "When Zeller struggled..." BTW... Those teams that beat IU, had one thing in common... good defense.

Except for two games - Butler and the one Wisconsin game - when one of IU's big 2 struggled well below their point average, IU lost. Zeller avgeraged 16.5 pts./game and Oladipo averaged 13.6 pts./game. Oladipo didn't even make top 10 of B1G scorers. Iowa had just as many in the top 10 B1G scorers as did IU. Marble (7th) at 15 pts./game. I believe it's reasonable to say that Iowa could (bolded that for you so you won't miss it) have several players step up enough to contribute and match what Oladipo provided to IU. Which are better odds? Several to make up the difference or having 2 players at the level IU had last year? That's all we are saying...

Zeller Oladipo
Syracuse 10 pts. 16 pts.
Wisconsin 13 pts. 10 pts.
Ohio State 17 pts. 7 pts.
Minn. 9 pts. 16 pts.
Illinois 14 pts. 9 pts.
Wisconsin 23 pts. 10 pts.
Butler 18 pts. 18 pts.

Was IU good last year? You bet. Will Iowa be as good? I don't know and haven't heard anyone even suggest that - so I'd prefer you would quit putting words in our mouths... We are just saying with a deeper team, you have a better chance of overcoming a player having a bad game or worse... injury. The only thing I could add in here is that most of us hope that Iowa is as good as IU was, but don't see anyone really suggesting otherwise... If you don't like that, then that's your problem and laugh at your hearts content. At least we are finally able to discuss that Iowa is going to be competitive. Been a long time for that.

You were saying something about putting words in mouths? Perhaps you should spend more time reading, and less time attacking others.

Seriously? Your posts in this thread are your attempt at trolling. It's so weak I'm not sure why you're even bothering. Go ahead and tell yourself how much you know about college basketball. It's a safe bet that no one else will.

Oh for Christ's sake, people.

Why...WHY did some of you get the bright idea to post something so wildly insane that I have to agree with OLWPAORWWM?

Seriously, you guys are ****s.
