ESPN/Katz Article: Iowa Not Shying from Expectations

You were saying something about putting words in mouths? Perhaps you should spend more time reading, and less time attacking others.

Were they suggesting Iowa was better or were they saying Iowa has more options? You were the one that twisted my words about IU struggling... I used facts to back my arguement... where's yours?

C'mon, this years Iowa team isn't as good as Indiana was last year.

It's an interesting comparison. Last year's IN team would certainly have been rated higher than this Iowa team, but we might well have beaten them. This year IA does have more quality depth than just about anyone and is more experience than IN was last year. I always thought that the big weakness to IN last year was demonstrated in having to play an under 6' slow guard for experience in the backcourt. That came back to bite them in the form of a very long and experienced Syracuse team.

You mean those direct quotes I posted?

Good God, is this where common sense goes to die? For Pete's sake, you've made it so TM agrees with me, and I know he doesn't like me.

Hey .. you can put those words in my mouth. I admit typing them. And as I said .. I may be proven wrong, and when I'm wrong I'm the first to admit it.

GO HAWKS!!!

Bluecrew , you da man! Bodyslamming awesome!

I don't see the point comparing this years team to last year's Indiana team. Good teams gain experience year to year just as we have Fran's first three years. I expect the same this year with perhaps even more improvement. I remember, I believe, Jesse Settles first year we lost quite a few games we could have won with more experience. The next year the experience gained paid dividends. I just have a feeling that this years team will demonstrate more improvement that Fran's first three.
Just an extremely humble opinion......

Good to see you back, Atomic....

Jack

That's pretty bold to state as fact...considering Iowa hasn't played a game yet.

You said that you would take this team over the team that was number 1 most of the year, won the Big Ten and had two guys picked in the top 5 of the NBA draft but I'm making the bold statement.

I'm extremely high on this team and I think that's insane.

Indiana was number 1 in the country for part of the year last year.

Iowa may sniff the top 15 if everthing goes well.

Iowa football hasn't played a game yet, either. I guarantee they won't be as good as Ohio State was last year.

Or is that too bold?

What's your point? I don't comment on football because I don't have enough insight or background. This is the basketball board and my comment related to basketball.

However, I will humor you with an answer since I have a couple minutes. The difference in talent between last year's Ohio State FB team and Iowa's current FB team appears to be substantial. The same can't be said as it relates to last year's Indiana basketball team and this year's Iowa BB team.

While I admittedly don't know you, from what I have at hand, your insight and background on basketball seems limited as well.

No offense, but I'd maybe expand that reticence towards football to include basketball as well.

I gave an opinion and made it that clear in my series of posts...that it was my opinion. You presented your comment as fact. That's the point I was making. You say that you think I'm insane because I'm an Iowa fan and prefer my current team to a team that didn't get anywhere close to the NC game last year. I appreciate that you at least put the word "think" in your sentence. This makes it an opinion rather than a statement of fact. I may or may not be insane.

As to your current comment...Indiana was not number 1 at the end of the year when it matters. They play this little tournament in March so that all of that random ranking stuff gets put to the test. Also keep in mind that I said I would take this year's team over last year's Indiana team. I didn't say this year's team is better than last year's Indiana team...although they could be. I will always take an Iowa team over an Indiana team.

So basically, you're insane. You choose to believe something untrue because that's the way you want things to be.

That's nice.

What are your expectations for the Hawks this coming year?

Indiana made it to the sweet 16 and you like this Iowa team better so am I safe to assume you think Elite 8??

Anybody can get hot in the tourney and go on a streak. If Alford can win 4 in a row in the b1G than Fran can make it to the sweet 16. The shots will start falling at some point with this team. Iowa could make the elite 8 just as easily as former Butler, VCU and George Mason teams did.

My signature for every post gives my prediction relating to the Big 10. I don't know if Iowa will make it to the Sweet 16 or beyond. I love deep teams...with quality depth. I honestly believe this Iowa team can be as good as last year's Indiana team. I also like this Iowa team better because most of it will be back next year and could be just as good. I don't think Indiana will be as good this year as they were last year. I like our coach better and I think we have far better team chemistry.

I don't get disappointed and have a meltdown like many others. If Iowa goes 10-8 and makes the NCAA tournament I won't be complaining because I thought we would do better. I will enjoy the 10 wins and be wishing we had won the other 8...in conference.

My prediction is that MSU wins the Big 10. I think Iowa will finish 2nd at 14-4. I think we have a very good chance of winning the BTT. I think we will be ranked all year and could potentially be a 3 seed in the NCAA tournament. We haven't been to the big boys tournament in awhile so we could lose the 1st weekend but I don't think that will be the case...see unexpected win at Virginia in NIT. I do believe we could go beyond the Sweet 16...definitely possible but certainly a reach to say probable.

Almost our entire known universe runs on probability, not possibility. What you described above is laughably improbable, and your results are ridiculously inconsistent, to the point where it is impossible to take anything you say seriously!

Two top-4 NBA draft picks (both were serious national POY contenders), plus a pair of good college players and excellent 3-point shooters (Hulls and Watford), an all-freshman point guard (Ferrell) and last year's B1G 6th man of the year (Sheehey), beg to differ.

Iowa is going to be good, but not Indiana-good. I guarantee that we don't have two guys who are going to be top-4 draft picks next spring, and I definitely know we don't have a guy like Oladipo on the roster, a guard who can completely dominate a game on both ends of the court.

We're deeper, but that doesn't make us better. There come times when a player has to take over the game to win it; we didn't have that last year (not against teams like Indiana, anyway), and the Hoosiers did.
