ESPN BLOG: Hawkeyes wide receivers catching on

Gotta admit. After the first two games i never thought I would read a blog like this about Iowa.
Glad I am, though.

I think one day we can look back and being down to Pitt that late forcing Iowa to go no huddle. Might change Iowa football for a long time. Everyone is seeing how much pressure it puts on a defense go three or four wide. In turn I can't help think it will change some of teams defensive calls/strategy. The changes wont be drastic or huge as we all know our beloved coach loves fast changes. Don't be shocked if you see more blitzing and different looks this week.

I find it kind of amusing that Kirk has doubts about the receiving corp. I was positive Keenan Davis had a bright future from the moment he flashed his athleticism to go up and get a pretty off target fade from Stanzi way back in '09 against Arkansas St. Guy just needed to get on the field. Tools to be a star have always been there.

with kirk's fondness for coach belichek (spelling?) i'm surprised we haven't dabbled in more spread formations. not that we'd ever go to that as our bread and butter, but how it can be just as effective in opening up the inside running game as it is for getting mismatches with receivers on LB's.

that's how athletes like woodhead and welker are even able to compete in the NFL and how they do soooo well, i really doubt they'd see much of the field in the 70's and 80's style of football.

anyway, long tangent to say - good article, and i'm really impressed with this group.

The trash talking in the comments is so humorous.

While it may be homerism to only talk sports on Hawkeye-related forums, I see no real point to reading, much less commenting, any more on ESPN and the like. Most of the people posting aren't interested in discussion, but trolling and proving how stupid they are.

Then there's the fruit loops, like that Hawkeye fan "Pete_Mote", who I see is still there from the last time I regularly read Rittenberg's blog entries a couple of years ago.

Speaking of, are the PSU fans there still assuming that they'll beat the crap out of Iowa every year like they used to? It always amused me how many new PSU names would show up to trash Iowa... then never be seen or heard from again once they were sent home crying yet again.
