10. Iowa. All thing considered, Iowa is basically even with No. 10 Northwestern at this point. The Hawkeyes won their first five games and looked good doing so, but didn't really play anybody. When they did, Wichita State handled them on a neutral floor, and Virginia Tech put up 95 points (1.28 per possession) during Day 1 of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Fran McCaffery's team has some nice talent, and good young players, but they have to defend better than this.

You guys are right after all. You're back!!!!

All ribbing aside, I think that is too low for Iowa. I think Purdue has a really good coach in Painter but they are very young. If Bird shoots like that every night they'd be ok but don't count on that happening. I'd have you guys above Northwestern, Penn State, Nebraksa and Purdue for sure.

It's so early in the season that it's too difficult to tell. North Carolina could turn out to be an NIT team and Virginia and VaTech could turn out to be NCAA teams, so how impressive would that Indiana victory look? How bad would those Virginia and VaTech losses look?

Can't argue too much right now. Iowa needs to get a couple good wins to be looked at more closely. The most interesting thing from this write up is that the writer is an Iowa native...and that's not very interesting

Larry Bird doesn't play for Purdue you ******* and Virginia sucks!

but D. Byrd does and he is the leading scorer for Purdue. Virginia is not a bad team as they are 6-1 and have a win over George Mason and is still in the ACC and that is not to shabby a conference

(facepalm) So maybe we should wait until conference play starts in the ACC to see how they do? Iowa is in the B10 and that's not too shabby a conference, so we're back, right?

Wrong again... they are 5-2 and not only lost to George Mason but also Delaware who is an excellent 2-5.

TOP 10!!!!!

Honestly though, there really isn't much that is more useless than ESPN power rankings, and that's in any sport.

Though, I really don't mind if Iowa is rated lowly in the Big 10. Have we had a game yet this year that has shown any signs of us being that good yet? We've struggled with some bad teams and had double digit losses to decent but not great teams?

I feel we'll likely improve, based upon the fact that this is a young team who still needs time to gel and figure out college hoops and the fact that a good chunk of our struggles have been based on bad shooting, something that would likely improve as the season progresses but based upon college basketball at this point there isn't much reason to have us very high.

Polls/rankings don't me crap to me this early in the season. Look at football early this year... USC was a title contender and Notre Dame wasn't even rated. Most of the ESPN guys had Michigan St. winning the B10. Don't waste your time worry about ESPN and their garbage rankings.
