Erik Campbell and Brian Ferentz

If Ferentz decides to promote Erik Campbell as OC and bring in Brian Ferentz as offensive line coach, I'm fine with that.

But, for Pete's sake let's not keep Hawkeye nation waiting so long for the announcements.

At the rate it took to make public a new DC who was a long time coach on the staff, we may be waiting until after Memorial Day for the announcements.

Yeah, why doesn't Kirk Ferentz spend more time worrying about our needs?

I thought the delay might hurt recruiting, but clearly it didn't. So who gives a rip? It's not like we're on the cusp of spring practice or something. The week after the Super Bowl is a pretty natural time to make this announcement.

Edit: and more to your point, I wouldn't hold your breath on the OC announcement. Spring practice starts March 22. I'd say KF has a couple of weeks to work with if he wants them.

:D Perspective??? You think this is a time for perspective? Don't you realize that Kirk Ferentz has single-handedly sent all of mankind hurtling towards Armegeddon??

I immediately move to revoke your fanhood!!

It just seems so odd for Ferentz to wait this long when other schools announce similar job fills within days or weeks of the vacancy.

Don't know why it's suppose to be a big secret when he likely knew who he was going to hire a while back. I don't know what any advantage it would be to hold off an in house promotion this long.

I think the Iowa fans and the general public have a right to know what's going on within a PUBLIC institution that is supported by OUR tax dollars in a timely manner. That includes the hiring and position changes of coaches. Also keep in mind many of us donate to the University to help pay for facility upgrades, etc. We should be kept informed on the changes in a timely manner.

step back from the ledge, my friend.

then please write the leadership and demand timeline protocol for the next hire.

like kf himself has said " that's just football" plus were just little ol Iowa so who would want to coach at Iowa.

The football program is not supported by anyone's tax dollars. It pays for itself (and then some).

Now return to your regularly scheduled wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Why is everyone making such a fuss about the time it took to name Parker? Is this really that difficult to figure out?

Kirk had these moves all planned out from the start, obviously. The fact that Reese Morgan moved to the defensive line, leaving the offensive line coaching spot open, clearly makes room for a possible hire of Brian Ferentz. Rather than announce these moves in mid-to-late December, leaving everyone to speculate about Brian and question him at every turn, Kirk waited and allowed the Patriots' season to play out so Brian could keep his full attention there.

I'm sure it wasn't just a favor to his son, but also to his good friend, Bill Belichick. It's no coincidence these announcements came out two days after the Super Bowl despite signing day taking place a week earlier.

Personally I hope we don't hire an OC until August...just give some spice to the summer and fall workouts.

It's not a question of whether KF has the right to drag out the process indefinitely--as the head coach, he does. But the secretiveness and exorbitant length of time needed make these decisions does seem to be uniquely KF and Iowa.

We are coming off two highly disappointing seasons and 5 or more losses in 5 of the last 7 years. The hiring process of two separate coordinators was a chance to energize the fan base (regardless of who was ultimately hired), and it couldn't have been more terminally boring or anticlimactic. As has been said many times before, the next time the UI athletic department takes advantage of a favorable PR opportunity, it will be the first time.

Why is it so hard to understand the timeline for you? He wanted to talk to the Giants assistant. He could NOT do that until his season was over. It just so happens it looks like he wants to hire his kid who also was still coaching in superbowl. It's not like Spring ball starts in 2 days. It didn't seem to hurt us in recruiting most pundits liked the class more then not. So lets let KF put his staff together get things together see how they look after spring ball and give em a chance.

Yeah, because everyone knows those are the rules...wait...didnt PSU hire the Patriots OC for their HC vacancy long before NE's season was over????

I honestly doubt that. I think PP has been DC for a while now, and he was waiting for the talking to his son to announce everything. I doubt he waited 2months, talked to Herrman who wasn't interested and then just made the PP decision, moved 2 other assistants. If so why not name an OC and OL coach just as quickly. I don't think Herrman was ever in it.

Our OC just left. Calm down.

You mean we have had an OC for the last 13 years ? Kind of hard to tell.

Is Soup even interested in the OC position. I thought for some reason he could've moved up at UM or after he left UM, but wanted to just be a WR coach.
