Eric May

Iowa is better off letting May walk. He will be replaced by a basketball player, as opposed to a fairly unskilled athlete.

Well then whatever is best for May then. But I doubt he needs 2 years to recover from a back injury.

That would be weird having him sit out for 2 years and then play his senior season in 2014/15. He would "graduate" with White, Olaseni, and Oglesby.

The most likely scenario is that May takes a red-shirt season next year. He comes back in two years & reinjures his back early in the season. Eric would be eligible for a "medical hardship" sixth season provided:

1. The injury occurred in the first half of the season; and

2. Eric played in no more than thirty-percent of Iowa's scheduled games; and

3. The injury prevented him from playing the remainder of season.

Jess Settles was at Iowa forever because of back problems.

Holy crap, the idiots are coming out in full force today! Where in the hell is this coming from? When May is healthy he is a damn good player coming off the bench.

I am assuming that his back will be better by next November. If not, then he should hang'em up. Not sure if it is muscular or skeletel, but if it is not repaired in 5 months,it probably required surgery which is a whole different ballgame.

I think a healthy Eric May can be a reasonable facsimilie of Purdue's Chris Kramer of a few years ago. Off the bench, tough defender, who brings fire and physicality to the floor, with limited offensive contributions, but good senior leadership,on and off the floor. You do not need to be a starter to be a senior leader, but it helps to be in the rotation. I think Eric can do that. Just the physical maturity gives seniors an edge over many of the rest in the league. Austin Thornton hardly played until this year,as a senior,a starter for a top 5 team at MSU. Berggren at Wisky,as a 4th year junior,is really stepping forward.

Lets just hope that Eric can get to 100% by next year,so whatever his role is,he is pain-free and contributing to the team in practice, during games, and off the court,as a third straight solid senior captain, following Jarryd Cole and Matt Gatens.

I prepared a comment critical of May. After reviewing it, I thought better of it. By all I've read about him, he's a good kid, who is trying hard, and appears to be a good teammate. He has not done anything to embarrass the program. Given his struggles, he could have become a malcontent inside and outside the lockeroom. He has not done that. He doesn't deserve such harsh treatment from Hawkeye fans. I, for one, am laying off.

Nothing personal against May but he will not be seeing many minuets even if healthy next year.

He is playing at least one level ahead of where he basketball ability is.

At 6'7 he could have made a nice power player with his hops but at 6'4 he just doesn't have the fluidity or coordination with the ball to be able to play a guard position in the bigten.

I feel bad for him as he would have probably ended up playing football for Iowa if not for Lickliter. I think we all know what Iowas football staff is capable of producing with an athlete like Eric.

He made a decision with his heart and not with his head that unfortunately would have never been presented to him if not for Licks ineptitude as a high major coach.
