Iowa’s Eric May is healthy and ready to contribute | TheGazette

Glad to hear hes healthy. I hope he can get his confidence up and hv a great senior season. From article:

“Just knowing what I can do, what I’m capable of and not being able*— my body wouldn’t let me do it*— it was frustrating,â€￾ he said. “But I’m past that now.â€￾

After an offseason of extended rest and intense stretching, May is back to his physical standard. He’s the strongest guy in the workout room and he sets the tone for everybody, from the juniors who know him well to the incoming freshmen.

“He wants to go after a starting position,â€￾ McCaffery said. “I’m sure he feels like if he’s healthy he can go get it. Noboby was playing better than him at the beginning of last year, including Matt (Gatens). He was playing better than anybody. Then when the games started, he wasn’t as good. He was still pretty good, then he got hurt. He wasn’t the same.â€￾

I truly believe Eric will have another break out season to bookend his freshman season.....

He will bring the house down with his flying thunder dunks.....

:)

if jo cant emerge as the starter at the 2 then i see marble moving to the 2 and may starting at the 3. marble will still play the 3 but may has experience so i wont count him out of this battle. if he can knock down 33% 3s and run and play defense and rebound it is a bonus with his leadership. it is sad he has not had a full career because of injuries. he could have been a great spark plug off the bench if he hadnt had to carry so much on weak teams.

For his sake, I hope he stays healthy. For the Hawkeyes sake, I would love it he stays healthy!

You really have to feel for a guy that just cannot play to their top level because of injuries.

He is a very good defender, rebounder and a good team guy. I don't think he has to score a lot. He is strong in a conference where you need strong bodies.

He'll log a lot of meaningful minutes for a team that could be very good. I see him coming off the bench as the 6th or 7th man.

I see the same thing.

With up tempo style of play that we use I see our rotation going very very deep with every able and capable body contributing to some extent.

A healthy Eric May allows us to keep pressure on that much longer with fresh ant talented players.

It's unfortunate, but I think people really forget what Eric showed as a freshman. Remember, he was the guy who Evan Turner told was "going to be a star" (provided he worked on his ball handling). I think Eric's got a lot left in the tank and a ton left to prove. I think back to Gatens run this February. Did anyone REALLY see that coming? Eric might have some surprises for us yet.

If he stays healthy he could be the difference between a team that is good and a team that is very good. I am trying to remember the name of a former hawkeye that was hindered by injuries. This player came in also a highly rated player a did well his freshman year but then hurt his back and struggled with the injury and pain. I am wanting to say his name was Mark Gannon but I may be wrong.

+1. That said, it's the off-season, so it's no surprise that May is healthy at present. Let's see if his body holds up once the games start.

Here's wishing him the best for a good senior season.

if may and marble are on the floor at the same time may will play thr 2 and marble the 3

Jess Settles may have been an All American if it were not for his back issues. Sucks to see players careers nose dive because of injury.

jess settles would have had a great NBA career if he wasn't 40 years old by the time he got done at Iowa

It is good to see so much positive posting about Eric May. He is a Hawkeye who has given everything to the team, despite his injuries. He was the most exciting player on the team his freshman year and a joy to watch.....

An injury free year would work wonders for him and the team.....

:)

Before EM's injury in late December 2010, he led the team, or was 2nd or 3rd, in all major categories. His scoring, rebounding, and shooting almost 50% from the 3 pt line were HUGE. If he can stay injury free & play at just that level from his sophmore season, without improvement, he would help propell this team to the tourney.

He just needs to stay healthy...
