Eric Graham, RB commit to the Hawkeyes, today

Adam robinson and brandon wegher didn't have great competition either in highschool and they did well at Iowa. I like this RB a lot. He sounds like a good kid and he will do what it takes to be succesful.

Neither finished their careers at Iowa. Do we really see this kid coming in and taking snaps away from Canzeri, Daniels, Wadley?

Wegher had many offers. I am not sure about Robinson, and he was a nice surprise.

This kid had NOTHING, and it sounds like it was grades. That was my point. I hope he turns out to be great, he maintains his studies and helps the Hawks have a decent running game.

Or we'll be back to John Kenny being our featured back :)

Grades. Probably wasnt worth the risk to some playing in a small Alabama high school with some grade issues. Iowa had to take that chance, hopefully it pans out
There are so many side bars one can make on this thread. Here's one, IMO: KF isn't flipping the bird at Iowa fans as some posters have asserted (I'm not saying things couldn't be better). The staff is scrambling. Trying to make Iowa better.

What are you talking about? Graham is 5'11 200 lbs and Higdon was 5'10 190 lbs. Albert Young was about 200 lbs, Fred Russel was about 190 lbs
Remember I said preferred body type. Last 3 seasons, the same runner (body type) was featured at Iowa. How many types were available? I'd say KF prefers the big, bruising, tackle-breaker with plodding speed (when given the choice).

I don't think KF is failing on purpose. Not for 1 minute. I believe that he's failing for legitimate reasons and most of them he has brought on himself.
I also think that KF honestly believes that he can turn it back around. Most coaches would. Ask any head coach on the unemployment line if he thought for a minute that he would fail.

...Wadley will tote the rock when Daniels gets injured in the 2nd game of the season, running behind this O-line. By the 5th game, Wadley will be limping and Plewa will be the starting RB for the remainder of the season. Graham will RS and Iowa fans will be wondering what Capt Clueless is doing, once again...

Here's my other side note: Since Iowa will have few running backs for 2015, why doesn't the Iowa staff 'encourage' their running backs to have injuries on the playing field if they're gonna have injuries? Means more simulations on the practice field. IMO, the running back curse Iowa has is partially due to 'vicious' hitting during practice because good practice players play on Saturdays. Help to build better runners rather than injure better runners.

Why do people on here keep saying no one wanted this kid. He was being recruited by a lot of top programs. The issue was not grades (he's a 3.0), it was his ACT score that kept school from offering. Graham seems to come from a good family and has the right attitude. Please quit letting your hatred of KF transfer to the kids who chose to come to Iowa.

I agree with you. It's just that to most people on here they just look at that as all one and the same. Just a part of becoming eligible to enroll.

I think you're being incredibly naive. He's in the middle of SEC country. Understand? SEC! Home of the original illiterate college athlete. If one of those programs thought he was a difference maker, they would have someone else show up and take his ACT test for him. They've done it lots of times before.
There is no shady deal, trick or scam that Alabama, Auburn, Clemson or South Carolina hasnt pulled to get players into their programs. That is a varified and historical FACT.
Now, the next varified and historical fact is that not 1 SEC program offered him a scholarship. The next varified and historical fact is that Iowa has more difficult entrance qualifications than any SEC school, not named Vanderbilt.
I think this kid can run effectively at Iowa if the O-line can open holes. That's not the problem.

I'm not naïve at all. Never was it said that the SEC powerhouses were after this kid, but other D1 schools were. If he were a 5* running back in SEC country, Iowa wouldn't have had a foot in the door. I think the staff did a good job of find a kid with skills and having keep the door open as a replacement for Higdon backing out. I know Iowa has more difficult entrance requirements, but they are also allowed a few exceptions to meeting those requirements.

If they got a back that you say can run effectively at Iowa then what is the problem? That he doesn't have 4 or 5 stars attached to him?

No problem with Graham personally. I think he can run effectively if he gets good blocking up front. He just happens to represent the problem with KF and his inability to recruit. When you've been in with a recruit for 2 years, get his commitment and then have a new HC in the same conference, no less, come in and poach him right out from under you with less than a week to go....that's a problem. It's a small part of the larger problem and as long as the problem continues, KF will never come close to a BIG title again.

I love how some fans try and make it sound like we just signed Barry Sanders. This kid LIVES in SEC country yet he was sitting around on signing day waiting for IOWA, of all schools, to say, "yeah, okay ... we do need you, I mean ... want you, after all..."

Holy cow kool-aid drinkers, it can't simply be grades that kept schools away ... Remember, we are talking SEC territory. The same SEC territory that would have turned Troy Davis into an academic All-America.

Now, I would love to see this kid come in and be a huge success. But let's not trip over our di**s trying to make it sound like we signed Barry Sanders ... Holy cow, some fans are just ridiculous, and laughable at the same time ... One highlight video and he looks much better than Higdon and he is going to work harder than Higdon ... blah, blah, blah ... Hey, I am all about being optimistic but to go through life trying to sugar coat everything will not get you far in life ...

Mr nick- we just offered Johnny Soybean a scholarship. He's from Tuscaloosa, the heart of the sez where everyone has seen him play. He is a 5'2 157 lb db who runs a 4.8 40. All the doctors have said he can get no bigger, no faster, no stronger. His grades are average and he can't gets no smarter either how. He had 4 tackles and 2 pass break ups his senior year and was honorable mention all con. His coach says he's not a bad option if there's no one else. When asked about becoming a hawk he said "I suppose it's cool, no one else offered." What's your take on this kid Soybean?

I agree HawkNick seems totally homered out or a ClownFan. But I really really like the video and think this guy is going to be real deal. Purely based on my couch D1 skills of picking these things up. Lets see what he can do before we base off just stars but his tape is very nice and I likey.

Please don't ever ever ever call me a clown fan again. I can't think of a worse possible insult.

I guess being described as a homer is not that far off though. To the extent that I don't watch any other college teams play but Iowa.
