Eric All injury

I believe the hit to Eric All's took to the lower right leg was a cheap shot that needs to be made illegal. Much like the hit Jordan Canzeri took in the 2015 Big Ten championship.

You know they practiced the shit out of that hit because they knew they would get the chance based on our tape. No one expressly said "sweep the leg, Johnny" but the statement "you may need to go low to take him down (wink wink)" was given to the scumbag who laid down the shot.

I hate the injury but you already can’t go high. How the hell do you tackle a dude that big? It would be flag football at that point.

That specific hit to the knee is coached. I've personally witnessed it in a game. I believe it qualifies a player for disqualification if the cheap shot hit to the knee results in a game ending injury for the offensive player.

Steve Stilianos is getting quite a few reps. He was a transfer last year. Didn't get much PT last year but he gained this year. Seems like he is used more for blocking. He might have to get more involved in the passing game now.

I think we will see more of Mr. Large, the fullback. May line up anywhere.

It was a cheap shot because he used his helmet and hit a defenseless receiver. Plus he went for the knee area. If he wrapped up and helmet to the side I would have had no problem hitting low. Should be a forbidden play.

The announcer Huard mentioned this during the game and I thought it at the time too. That's also on the QB... He lead him right into that... And it happened a couple different times he did it to Ragaini too same depth on the route and everything but he was smart enough to drop the ball before getting smashed. The risk reward for that play is just not in Iowa's favor

So two things. Since every team is going to be playing us in a phone booth in shallow zones quite a bit those plays are going to be really ineffective so BF needs to stop calling them so much. Granted Mr Hill is working with a limited playbook most likely but he's going to run out of receivers if they keep doing it.

Two Mr Hill needs to see the field better. Had he thrown the ball outside the WR was more open to the sideline instead.... He just lead All right into that and you could see it coming.

I believe he played TE at Dort, so it isn't out of the possibility they shift him to TE, IMO. But, he's been so productive at the FB. I wonder what FB's are behind him that can fill?

You are on the money.

I think Huard's analysis was off point. Are you really supposed to not throw to an open receiver because there is a defender that will hit him after he catches it? Come on.

The QB has three seconds to make a decision. He is looking at 4 of his guys and 7 of their guys and looking for windows to throw. You don't have time to consider whether a defender will be there to Nuke the receivers knee after the catch. It is just part of the game.

BTW, most receivers would rather the defender take their head off than go low and hit the knees. Knees cost you a season. A head shot might cost you a game or two. I know with CTE and concussion issues that may not be the best way of thinking, but I have heard Carter, Moss, TO, etc. all say they would prefer high than low.

On those kind of plays yes. Qbs are not supposed to throw high and lead a receiver over the middle into getting smashed like that in a bang bang type of play where they can't defend themselves. Those were fun plays to watch in the 80s and 90s when Ronnie Lott and Mike Singletary would smash your receivers for it. Not now.

If you're throwing that ball you gotta put that ball on the body of the receiver right on their inside hip so they can protect themselves a little bit. That's if you throw it at all. The WR running same route closer to the sideline is the safer read but he liked the easier to complete pass to All cause it was right in front of him.

Any Qb analyzing a play like that would say the same thing I am about it.

I was a very bad back-up QB in high school, but even for a good QB it is hard to place the ball in exactly the place it should be in the ideal. In that circumstance, it would have been great to throw that pass low and lead him into the ground and/or defender. But, we don't have Aaron Rogers back there and he threw it high, unfortunately.

Brock Huard was also not Aaron Rogers. I guess I just thought the criticism was a bit much. He completed the pass to an open receiver and there was an unfortunate injury. I don't personally blame anyone. Just part of the game that sucks.

I'm hoping Ostrenga can showcase some of his talents. LaPorta made mention prior to last season that he actually had the best hands in the TE room and was catching everything thrown his way. Hopefully it's his time to shine. Definitely, some talent at that position.
