Epenesa only in on 3rd Downs

If you are going to call out posters on their what ifs, you really shouldn't base your own arguement on one.

My argument is based on Ferentz's long track record. To a lesser extent, you could also base it on AJ's play today. Of course we can't know "what would really happen." That's one of the reasons for this discussion board, but my argument is evidenced by the past--an argument many fans have leveled against Ferentz for years. It's much easier for some to get on the Ferentz train now.

How do I enable anything? I don't oversee KF. I don't think he hears me yelling at the tv from Minnesota.

AJ will be great. No doubt about it. AJ showed he can get penetration. AJ also showex a couple times that he can miss some pretty wide open shots at the QB when he gets there.
People need to temper their expectations for the kid. There were people on the board predicting he would have 3 sacks today. Come on. Let him play a couple games before you start calling him the next Clowney.

There is much kore to football than being the most athletic. There is even mors than that in Iowa's system.

I am good with the coaches putting him in during situtions where they can say - just get the QB. He will play more each week if he is as vood as the hype this board has viven him.

He was close to having 3 sacks today. He was likely more effective when he was in there bc he was fresh. Everyone out there was likely better bc they were fresh. It seemed to me Iowa used their depth a Dline like many have been hoping for for years! And they did so playing to the strengths of each player. More of the same please!

AJ is easily the most talented player on that D BTW...that includes the outlaw. He is nowhere near the player Josey is...yet. That bull rush when he plowed the T almost all the way to Allen was superhuman. Stay tuned. AJ is the most talented F to see the field at IA since Timmy D.

This. They played at least 8 deep. I thought the way the moved Matt Nelson around was interesting. And even Brady Reiff was flashing, looking like a modern day Tyler Luebke!

As far AJ being the most talented, it depends what you mean. He certainly the most physically gifted. I'd say he's the most physically gifted player I've ever seen wearing an Iowa uniform. He walked on campus looking like a starting NFL DE. And he seems to have a really nice blend of respectfulness, drive, and a mean streak to go with it.

You enable because you accept the status quo--and argue in its favor. It's no secret Ferentz has suppressed talent in favor of experience throughout his career at Iowa. AJ may have had 3 sacks today if he were allowed to play more. He only played some 3rd downs and he had one. And I hope he's not the next Clowney...for other reasons.
Lighten up Francis. How was playing with your Hitler doll during the game? Were you raging the whole time cheering for Wyoming to pull out a squeaker so all of your fantasies of KF being blasted could come true? Pathetic. 24-3. Lots to criticize about the defense. Congratulations on finding something to be upset about. The bashing of your "favorite" team schtick is getting tiresome. Go Hawks!

Making ill-informed statements in the face of a 19 year track record, enabling the "play not to lose" mentality... Classic Message Board Kirk Apologist.
It sucks when Iowa wins, doesn't it.
I'd like to see your post that says, "Good win by Hawks" or something positive and similar to that. Got one of those?

He got called out and called out the caller. You just threw a flag at the guy who retaliated for a penalty not called.

Season starts, come back to the board and see stupid shit like this. Life's better without you son.

Sorry to have added such a stressor to your life. I bet the profs in the liberal arts college can find you a nice, warm safe space--you will be protected from all ideas you disagree with and fed hummus and pita chips to your heart's content. ...or you could trade in the skirt for a pair of jeans and man the f up.

Let's put this back in context for the Ferentz bleeding heart revivalists. I simply said AJ should play more and doubted that Ferentz would give him appropriate playing time vs. Hesse as the season continues. This is evidenced by Ferentz's long track record of keeping talent off the field...this would not have been a controversial statement three years ago--in fact most were singing this criticism's praises. Somehow, recapitulating this point three years later transmuted into "I'm not happy about the win," "There's nothing good about Iowa football," and a whole host of speculative whinings. Good teams ID small areas of improvement and adjust with each game. I reserve my right to make criticisms and call out interlocutors on their bs and "the hawkeyenation collective" for its quick turn-tail hypocrisy.

They are obviously easing him in. Even on 3rd and short, they kept either Hesse or Nelson out there. They basically told him to go out there and bend the blindside on 3rd and long, and he did a pretty damn good job of it today.

At some point, I think AJ takes over for Hesse and AN and AJ will be the 2 starters. I think PH can slide inside and be affective on 3rd downs, as well.

Hey ChickenLittleBerryFinn...relax, it was one game where our defense was playing very very well. It's called easing your freshman in while giving a player who has now started two years what he's earned. Plus Hesse was executing his assignment. That was a disciplined pass rush yesterday, trying to keep Allen in the pocket...that's why you didn't see our ends trying speed rushes up and around the tackle...because Allen will slip through the hole and run or go off script where he is most dangerous.

KF is conservative with freshman players...because he knows it's a big jump from a high school game to Kinnick Stadium with a dangerous opponent...ask Imir Smith (one play, missed hole, trip, fumble). You will see more AJ this week...and certainly more the next. Trust me, you will also see him in a big way against Penn State...having 7-8 deep on the DL is a huge huge thing for Iowa...we haven't had that and you need them. It's a long season...AJ will get his time. I really think Phil Parker knows what he's doing...and maybe a little more than you...just a little though.

Yes, of course, it is me who needs to "relax." I offer one criticism with a historical basis and you girls jump off the rag to denounce this "gross injustice." Your statement, "giving a player who has now started two years what he's earned" sums up my criticism of Ferentz and apologists of your ilk. The best players should play--they have not always played in the past because of the sentiment you blatantly laid out. Again, this would've been a crowd statement 3 years ago...before Ferentz was back in the collective's good graces.

I don't think we need to worry much about AJ's playing time. Kirk has trouble playing a slightly better player over an experienced player. But more than likely, AJ will be more than "slightly better" soon enough. And since he plays a position where he can rotate in, it will be impossible to keep him out.

I like humus.
