End of regular season, IOWA-Northwestern game prediction

These jerks are going to try to ugly it up. Don't let them and we win by millions of points.

1 - Senior Day
2 - Revenge
3 - More Talented Team...and on a roll
4 - Olah (7'0"...270 lbs. & 2nd leading scorer) 44 minutes vs. Michigan
5 - Demps (leading scorer) 46 minutes vs. Michigan

1) can work for or against you (or in ISU's case: both)
2) wouldn't be a factor if they hadn't just beaten us
3) agreed, though we're also in the softer area of our schedule (which is over-documented)
4&5) may be paraphrasing Bobby Hansen, but this isn't as big a factor as it was back when kids grew up only playing one game/week. They know how to recover and get back out there. IMHO, this will only be a factor if the Hawks can jump on them early and take their hope away. Then they'll start feeling fatigue.

Don't misunderstand, I'd love to see Iowa crush this team. I'm just more prone to tap the brake a little.

Other reasons I'm a little apprehensive is that I expect some regression to the mean, re:

1) we won't continue to shoot 90% from the line.
2) White can't play like a 1st AA indefinitely.

OTOH,

1) Gabe maybe trending up after a few rough games (maybe feeling fully healed from his prior injury?). He had a nice 2nd half at Ind.
2) Maybe Uthoff and Jok get a hot game from beyond the arc.
3) I think our defense can stay hot. Much of this is a matter of effort and playing smart. No real reason to doubt they keep this up. If NW hits some crazy 3s, I just hope we keep up the intensity like we've been doing the past two weeks.

They just beat us and they beat us in the BTT last year. We beat them by 26 points each of the regular season games last year. I expect a result more like the 26 point wins. I'm thinking Michigan, Rutgers and Nebraska type effort out of Iowa.

Demps can probably bounce back. I'll give you that. But Olah is 7 foot and 270 pounds. He's not going to bounce right back from 44 minutes against our front line. Maybe he could be productive against a team like Indiana with no inside game but not against our length.

We'll see. I thought we would beat them the 1st time so I could be wrong again.

Plus the game was a late game before going into double OT...And factor in they are travelling to IC for an 11 am tip. They will probably start off flat or get tired down the stretch.

I hope the players are still TICKED OFF at jNW from that game in Evanston. I HOPE that they come out breathing fire and put a hurtin' on the Wildcats. Then, when we have them down 20 + points, I hope Fran instructs the guys to "Pour it on 'em!" I want there to be NO DOUBT in the minds of jNW wht a fluke it was that they beat the Hawks and have it in the back of their minds in case they should meet in the BTT.

I would seriously like to see them so far ahead that Fran can put in Denning at the 8 minute mark and let him play with the first teamers for a good, long stretch.

I wouldn't even mind if after they dunk it right over top of Olah, that they trash talk (scream) at him and get a technical (or two).

Is anyone else as FURIOUS at jNW as I am? I hope the players are.
no fouls in 16 minutes, my ***!
Kick their sorry ***** back to Evanston....

ill take some of this pls...

I sat through the debacle at the BTT last March. I then sat through debacle-II at Evanston a couple of weeks ago. Hawks were uninspired to say the least.

For all the reasons listed, Iowa goes out on a high note, winning by 20+. Book it.

Gessel and Clemmons need to break down their zone much better this time around. Our offense was stagnant and unproductive last time in Evanston.

I still say we should press them the length of the court for 40 minutes. They can't break a press. NW may get the occasional easy basket but we should get just as many turnovers and we will wear them down.

I happen to know that Fran hates nerdz.

Gabe puts on a block clinic.....JO finds his stroke and we ride it all the way to the NC game......sorry feel asleep half way through my post the last part might have been a dream

I don't know if O'Keefe will be there but he'll be here if Northwestern somehow pulls off the upset. If Iowa wins he might be here to offer up the excuses, the hammering of Iowa etc..

Couldn't miss senior day of my senior year. Called into work boys! Predicting a B1G Hawks win, probably by 15+

I'm going to be at CHA since January 2001 comeback win vs Indiana. Times have changed. Now I go into Carver with a wife of 11 years and four kids. I'd like to tell that '01 version of myself to enjoy that NCAA win vs Creighton and make it last!

I predict Iowa 72 Northwestern 49. If we focus on taking Olah and Demps out of the game NW will have trouble putting the ball in the basket.
