Empty seats?

You realize the reason the game takes long is BECAUSE OF TV, right?

We don't need to have the game clock stopped as guys jog back to the huddle or LOS.

Here are two things that you mention that can easily be fixed.

#1 I and many others dont pay attention to commercials that much during a game. I think if the NCAA made "silent " commercialization be part of the time between plays and less commercial breaks that would cut down on the length of games.

And make the play clock be 30 seconds over all or like you say keep the clock running after incomplete passes except for the last 5 minutes of each half.

It's pretty much a lead pipe lock that if we were top ten playing nebtards at home under the lights on national tv every last seat at Kinnick would be full. Yes we'd still punt on our opponents 37 but the seats would be full

Still, if Iowa was up 27-3 in the rain half way through the third quarter and it was already 10:40pm, would you blame the students if they left early? At some point, you need be realistic with your expectations.

Ah, who am I kidding? Iowa would never be up 27-3 in the 3Q. Not with this year's offense, anyway.

Sparty had the game in hand at the half...I could se why people would leave. It wasn't that interesting by the late 2nd quarter / early 3rd quarter.

It was not some empty seats around the edges....it was a sea of empty seats...tens of thousands...and they missed a thrilling finish. Watching the RU-Michigan game....that place was rocking...RU probably has the third best student section behind OSU and PSU. Watched the Oregon- Arizona game at Oregon on a Thursday nite last week...place was packed and stayed packed, even as the game went past 11 oclock PST.

College football is becoming a television first sport. When you make the games last 3.5 hours with commercials, start the thing past 7pm and charge so much for tickets you are BEGGING people to stay home and watch on tv.

Several games in the 2002 season didn't sell out. The final home game against Northwestern had barely over 60K, and we were in the Top 10 at game time and undefeated in the B1G.

The stadium was pretty full at kickoff and probably through the first half.

27-3 lead will make people want to get into the warmth and drink a warm wine or cold beer

That's what I thought. It looked packed out at kickoff.

It's two things:

1) The expense and hassle associated with attending a game

AND/OR

2) 60" kick@$$ HDTVs for 800 bucks at Costco.

that can explain why you and I choose to stay home, but does not really explain why the entire MSU student section left in the 3Q.
