Elite sportsbook

Better get going, it's legal tomorrow!
I signed up for emails and haven't heard a thing.
I was at Grand Falls a couple weeks ago and it might be September from what they told me.

You can use DraftKings Sportsbook instead. They have a slick phone app. The way the Iowa casinos are dragging feet I might just use DK anyway.

Poked my head in the Prairie Meadows sportsbook area this afternoon before the madhouse tomorrow. It wasn't anything special. DraftKings might be the way to go. The Iowa app hasn't gone live yet, or it hadn't when I checked this afternoon anyway.

Well it's ridiculous to know it's coming, have the $ to pay any amount and not make the deadline with a website.
I imagine if that's how it's going to be run, they will lose a lot of business.

I’m thinking the Iowa apps might be clunky for a while, I have the DK app and it’s pretty smooth. I’m going to make a deposit tomorrow and exercise my new rights :)

Where they are screwing up is with the web site. The on-site sportsbook room is great, you can go watch the game and bet a little while the wife goes and plays, but the website is where the money is going to be.
Now it's not like the concept of a website is new. Basically all they should of had to do is say design it, here is the time line. The end.

Hate to break it to you but casinos in Iowa make their money off of 82 year old ladies sitting at slot machines burning up their pensions before they croak. Then the hotels, then the golf courses.

People gambling on sports is about 37th down the list.

I guarantee you if the state said Nelda and Marge can now sit in their living rooms and play slots on the iPad the kids bought them they'd have the app out the next day.

You sound like Phil Donahue when he was incredulous when Milton Friedman told him Sears and KMart should be allowed to merge back in the '80's. If the casinos had their act together, they would be able to make 10x what they make off of physical gambling on a digital sports book. The incremental cost is almost $0 and they collect a vig on every bet.

Draft Kings has a better product because e-betting is all they do.

There's no real incentive for brick and mortar casinos to expedite a smooth online experience. They'd rather you came in the door and sit down in their lounge.

Bingo, while you’re there you actually have a chance of spending money elsewhere in the casino. Not so if you’re betting at home.

So, is there a list of casino's in Iowa that now have sport books? I am guessing Horse Shoe here in Council Bluffs, but I haven't read or seen much about it. I DID hear there would be an app. Which IMO, can't be that hard to develop considering I've used my bookies illegal sport app for close to 10 years. I realize it's much bigger scale, but same concept with a lot more money backing it's development.

I looked into it - Tim Dwight is gonna be at Amerisports here in town to make the first bet at 4 pm when it opens. Sweet

Oh, the Iowa casinos didn't build a monopoly for themselves into the legislation? Dumb move. Dumb dumb dumb. You're right, they will get skullf*cked by the out of state operators.

The Iowa casinos didn’t build a monopoly, but the state itself did. Any out of state books (DraftKings is New Jersey) still have to pay the same 6.75% tax on bets that in-state casinos do. So the state's accountants don't give a shit where you bet.

I personally don't think the casinos care much about online business. Any gambler who decides to bet from his couch is one who won't be in the door to eat a steak and have some Michelob Ultras while he lays his money down, and possibly go play some slots at halftime.

When I was in Vegas in June they wouldn't even give you a free drink unless you placed a $120 sports wager. Thats how small their margins are on sports betting. Horses you had to bet $30 to get a free drink.

There's a reason casinos have 6,000 slot machines.
