Eight 2012 In-State Recruits

A darkhorse in the 2013 class is Josh Weeber from Dubuque Senior.

As a soph he is averaging 20pts and 8 boards. Shooting 53% from the field including 45% from 3. He has some size at 6'4".

I am not saying he is big ten material now but you never know. Has potential to be similar to Gatens.

He goes against Josh O and Washinton tonight.

Wow, that's a quick release. He seems like someone we should keep our eye on. Looks to me like a better ball handling and more athletic McCabe. He could definitely play at Iowa if he could add a little bit of bulk.

Similar to McCabe,I think. Quickness is the question. Low release on his jumper also...but no doubt an impressive looking player.

The highlight reel of Abrahamson...Wow. He can seriously play. His level of competition allows for him to be the biggest, best kid on the court at all times, however he shows a great skill set. He can shoot, handle, dunk, rebound. He looks like a good player (I had never seen film of him, I didn't know he was that good!) and Iowa should make him a priority. He reminds me of Eric May in a lot of ways, especially if he can fill out more and put on weight.

ChrisDouglas I am kind of wondering what you think of Abrahamson considering Iowa come decision time (not sure what year he is). If you have personal experience with this kid, do you think there is any chance for him to be a hawk? If not, why not? What role do you think Horner will play in this kid's recruiting (for Iowa)?

I graduated HS last year, went to Rosy, so i've seen many of these Des Moines area kids a number of times. Having watched Jok play many times, I think he is the real deal. He can be a great D1 player. In my opinion, Sistrunk is not the player that this blog makes him out to be. He is a good high school player and all, but he's 5'8'' (maybe) and just a speedster, doesn't make me think of a D1 point guard.

I know you didn't ask me but I'll give you my 2 cents anyway. I've seen him play a couple of times and he is a good player that can do some really nice things. He can shoot and moves really well for his size. He had a dunk with his left hand in transition while being defended that was pretty impressive in one of the games I saw. That being said I would not lose any sleep if I was Fran if this kid isn't considering Iowa. For him not even to bat an eye(if that is true) at the UNI offer is laughable. If he isn't considering any Iowa school I guess he has his reasons but I definitely think he should. Don't know why Stanford would go after a kid like him from Des Moines, IA but whatever. Sure, they see potential but there have to be a ton of kids out there like him for them to recruit. I'm not saying Iowa shouldn't recruit him either, just that if he thinks he can do better good luck.

We have three Iowa preps that are virtual non factors, yet people want more kids that aren't quick enough, can't create their own offense and are basically projects? Wow, I thought 4 awful seasons would wake folks up, but apparently not. There is a reason outside of 1 kid every couple of years, no other BCS schools are raiding Iowa for talent. So WI picks up a couple of role players, big deal. We need more Basabes and Cartwrights. I am sure this kid is a nice player and will do well at Evansville or some similar program, but not in the big ten.

All of my responses are in bold:

I know Roosevelt...don't claim to know any of the others. This is what I know.

Sistrunk - I saw him a ton in 8th grade and talked with his dad on multiple occasions. I thought his athleticism and skill set were incredible. I haven't see him nearly as much since because he ended up at Hoover. He (or his dad?) wanted a guarantee that he would start as a freshman. Hoover gave it to him. Dohrfeld and Roosevelt didn't give it to him. He open enrolled at Hoover.

This is simply not true. I coached him in 8th grade (and part of 7th) for over 80 games, and I know both Dwight and his father (Dwight Sr.) very well. They never wanted a "guarantee" on anything. Dwight never started at Hoover until he was a sophomore.

Much like Jok, Dwight never had any contact with Doerfield, and was never going to play for him. If Doerfield would have stayed at Roosevelt when Jok was entering his freshman year, Jok would have went elsewhere as well. That is a guarantee.

Norman - He is a very good high school basketball player. He's a lefty as previously mentioned. He has the fundamentals and knows the game. He's even tempered. He takes a challenging class load...very intelligent. There's a good chance he's pretty much done growing. I like his game and his demeanor but he needs to play inside. IF he is good enough to play Division 1 it needs to be at a place like UNI, Creighton, etc. where he can play inside to mid-range and doesn't have to beat anyone off the dribble.

I agree with this assessment of Sam. Great kid, and has been doing what he does since I first coached against him when he was a 6th grader. Sam will be successful wherever he ends up.

Jok - I"ve talked about him enough in other threads. He's a talent and a great kid. I will be thrilled if he ends up at Iowa but won't waiver on my concerns about his ability to stay healthy. He can definitely play and be very good at the Division 1 level if he can stay on the court. I'm not convinced he can but again...I hope I'm wrong.

I have talked about Pete in tons of other places, and since he is a '13 kid, I will leave this alone for now.

The only "personal experience" I have w/ him is coaching against him when he was an 8th grader on the Martin Bros team w/ Paige, Gessell, Woodbury, etc. As I have previously stated, I do not know anything about him or his decision. Sorry I am no help here.

I completely disagree on Dwight. I would take him at Iowa in a heartbeat. How tall is Cartright? I think Dwight could be a stud at Iowa with the system we run. But I doubt we will ever offer him. Two things on Dwight-

1.) Former Iowa PG Mike Henderson (whose brother is Dwight's high school coach at Hoover) said that Dwight is one of the fastest three players with the basketball that he has ever seen in person. That includes guys he played against in the Big Ten, and overseas. That is high praise.

2.) Creighton called about him this weekend, and appears to be very interested.

I would really like to see a Sistrunk-Paige matchup at Wells Fargo next week in the state tournament. I have seen these two match-up before, and Dwight does just fine.

Listen, I am a huge Iowa fan and I would love to get Kale. Also, I go to Valley and am in the Junior class. Ive known Kale for a while, we've hung out. He will not go to Iowa and I am 100% confident in that. He also will not be going to Iowa State. He has no interest in either school and especially Hoiberg. Look for him to go to Stanford or Nebraska. Dont look at him as a defector either, he moved here in 8th grade with no iowa ties and still has none. Love this kids game and he will be a stud next year for My Tigers and on the next level.

I would take this guy's ^^^ comments on Abrahamson over anything I know about him, which is not much other than he is a stud.

Thanks, guys! Have a great week! Lots of great high school basketball being played all week to qualify for State!

A high school junior's comments who is a friend of his? Um...ok. I saw him play for a third time Friday night. Yes, he is a good high school player. I don't know how that translates to D1 ball but he would have to play guard. I do see a lot of potential and he does have the size. Stud might be a stretch, granted he is only a junior. Like I said before, for him not to consider an Iowa school is a mistake but as far as I know UNI is his only offer. I understand wanting to get out of the state I guess, but Nebraska? And Nebby is going to be in the Big 10 next year anyway. He should be on Iowa's radar but if he ain't interested, move on.

Haha, I am just saying I know nothing about the kid. That's all! :D

So is Sistrunk 5'8'' now or taller? Have not heard much about him. Will he end up at 6foot or taller?

He is listed at 5'9 by the IHSAA. He averages 9 ppg, 3.8 apg, and 2.8 spg. He only has 23 turnovers to 79 assists in 21 games recorded by the IHSAA.

He shoots 51% from the field overall, and 42.9% from 3-point, but he shoots 59.4% from free-throw. His 3-point % is a little deceptive since he is 3-7 on the season, so he doesn't take a lot of them. Looks like he does most of his damage getting to the basket.

Never seen him in person, but I've heard he is quite athletic, speedy and has a nice vertical. It would be nice to see him get a look from the Hawkeyes as both of his parents went to Iowa, but he might need to stretch out another couple inches to play high-major.

Couple kids that I think get overlooked because they are not in 4A.

Jordan Hay - 6'6 PG, North Cedar, Stanwood - Iowa Barnstormers AAU
Averages 24 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 4 apg, 2 spg and 2.6 bpg this season.

Daniel Jansen - 6'8 PF, MOC-Floyd Valley - Martin Brothers Attack
Averages 19.8 ppg and 9 rpg this season. Led his team to a win over the highly touted South Sioux City (NE) Cardinals.

Stats do not tell the story of the impact he has on a basketball game. He is not asked to score for this year's Hoover team, but they would not be 20-2 without him.

Thanks for this. I am not familiar with these two names. Nice work.
