Earl Wood's quote about Tiger's place in humanity is not just about golf

Here it is, the big quote, and it seems so outlandish that some don't believe it:

After his third straight U.S. Amateur win, Tiger Woods turned pro and won two Tour events in 1996. Sports Illustrated named Woods its Sportsman of the Year and sent Gary Smith to write the story.
After answering several questions, Woods seemed to go on autopilot. So Smith turned to Tiger's father, Earl.
"Tiger will do more than any other man in history to change the course of humanity," Earl Woods said. No kidding? Smith was understandably skeptical, so he followed up: Would the kid do more than Buddha, Gandhi and Nelson Mandela?
"Yes, because he has a larger forum than any of them," Earl said.
And there it was — the 2,000-pound quote. Earl was dismissed as an overheated papa, but the dreamers among us held out hope.

What's your point?

Someone disputed that Earl Woods made a quote like this or they said Earl meant Tiger would change the history of golf. I would say it was pretty brazen of Earl to say such a thing.

Yep, Tiger has a really good foundation and charity for kids that has helped many but many sports writers and commentators in general mention how Tiger has never given a quote about anything close to non-golf important subject.

Tiger gives quotes on 1 subject and 1 subject only, and that subject is Tiger.

I'm familiar with the quote, and again I have to wonder what your point is. It's not uncommon for a father to wish great things for their child. So it hasn't happened in the capacity that he had hoped, so what? Tiger has forever changed the face of golf and I'm sure that Earl was very proud of what Tiger accomplished before he died.

I would appreciate it if you don't edit my comments with things I don't actually type. Bolding, underlining, or italicizing is fine with me, leave the rest alone. I don't find you funny, entertaining, or even close to being clever.

this is a really long thread title about a tangential point from another thread that hasn't really died and you're not even talking about tiger but something his dad said fifteen years ago and he was cheating on tigers mom and bragging about it in front of his kid before he showed up at a father of the year award ceremony with alcohol on his breath anyway that's the kind of dad he was he couldn't get himself on television enough when he was alive and even had a book called raising a tiger or something when his secret to parenting was having a kid play golf all the time doesn't that sound brilliant what a great guy earl woods was

You clearly aren't a golfer.

You clearly aren't a professional golfer. The torque these guys are able to muster is unbelievable, especially with drivers and long wedges. Juice has changed this sport as much as any other. If you can't see, I don't know what to tell you. Every single guy on tour uses a power swing now. Every. Single. One. That used to be the norm for a select number of guys (who rarely won), and the rest were finesse guys.

Who's the last non-power guy to win on tour? David Toms? 2011 Colonial?

Juice has transformed the game. You're blind.

looks like someone is obsessed with Tiger Woods. especially something Tiger didn't say, nor has ever hinted at.

Don't worry, you have been ignored. Trying to twist the truth makes it no less true. Am I trying to be funny? Clever? That is pathetic. I merely told you an obvious truth and you tried to turn it into something else because you can't handle the truth. Good luck with the rest of your life and after, you will need it.

I don't understand how anyone could be blind to steroids during the steroid age. Does Tiger look like a linebacker? Can he hit the ball a mile out of 3' tall fescue? Does he want to be a navy seal? If taking roids is cheating, is Tiger competitive enuf to give em a try anyway? Or is he above cheating (ask Elin)?

Zach Johnson had a couple of wins last year (Colonial and the John Deere). Do you think Zach is juicing? I certainly think there are players that are taking stuff that is not legal, but I hope Zach is not one of them.

That's fair. No, I don't think Zach is juicing, but he does use that power swing. As long as the game is rigged to power, juice is in play.

In a slightly related note, anyone noticed how big Keegan got in the last two months?

What's this "power swing" nonsense? The golf ball only cares about how FAST the clubface is moving for fraction of a second the of contact. There are plenty of skinny guys who hit 300 yard drives with great technique . The main reasons are juiced BALLS and CLUBS.

You're incorrect. Distance is dictated by the club head speed and position of the ball on the club face. Great form creates leverage which increases swing speed and that makes the ball go further. In 2000 Tiger wasn't the biggest player on the tour yet he was one of the longest hitters. Why? Because he was clocked swinging his club at 130mph at one tournament.

Also, look at long drive competitions. They can hit the ball over 400 yards and generate over 150mpg swings. If you look at their swing it is 100% dedicated to generating power.

Ever wonder why the Zach Johnson's and Derek Jeter's of the world don't come out and condemn PEDs? I wouldn't be surprised if 90% to 95% of all pro athletes are doing something illegal. I could be on the high side here but we will never know.
