it wasn't yelling at the official that I found ridiculous although he should know better by now, it was when he went after a fan in the stands
 
i see...so Mike is held to a higher standard that some other guy just because we dont know his name?

What higher standard? I would say anyone yelling at a ref at a glorified pick-up game looks foolish, whether knowing their name or not.

ETA: I wonder how Matt feels about this.

im sorry but giving a ref crap is <<<<<< another person unrelated to the situation trying to instigate another guy.

refs take crap all the time. its part of the job.
 
something happened that certainly sped up the process. i dont think it was an ultimatum or anything.
 
Here is how it went down.

Mike barks at refs after a no call on a Matt drive.

Another guy in the stands says good call good call, the defender was there, that guy jumped into him.

Mike yelling from 50 feet away, why don't you just shut up, or leave.

Guy, ummmm WTF? You're allowed to talk but I'm not?

I didn't even know the one guy was Mike until after Randy said something about him being in the crowd and looking over to where he was sitting, then I put two and two together. Before yesterday I didn't know Mike Gatens from adam.

I was not clear. I meant that Matt was a target for local critics,which cannot be easy for Mike. Still, I agree he should not get too vocal on the refs in a summer league....competitive juices still flowing,I guess.
 
Matt's not an 8-year-old playing rec ball. He's a college senior, a captain on his B1G team. His dad ought to behave better than that.
 
I find it weird that Mike G or any parent would choose to attend his/her son's summer league game. I know Mike's a fan like we all are, but in these situations staying away is the correct answer. Regular games are one thing.

I don't know Matt or his local rep. I would like him to realize he's not cut out to be a primary scoring option, plus I would like him to put the words "pull up jumper" in his vocabulary.
 
It still sounds like anonymous fan was trying to get under the skin of Gatens. Unless said anonymous fan had a son playing, I think Mike Gatens has more of a vested interest no matter if it is a PTL game or a Big10 game. Anonymous fan should have just kept his mouth shut. I am sure the refs suck in the PTL, just like they do in most any other sport at any level???

Mike sponsors the team that Randy Larson coaches, so there's another reason he is in attendance.
