Don't laugh

Funny reading the posts from last week after they beat Ohio State and how great Stanley was and now sounds like he's a terrible quarterback with no accuracy and no touch.

The poster meant Iowa's rush defense was bad in the Wisconsin game. To think otherwise, is an offense hater or, at least, a lover of mediocrity.

The last part of the sentence is for sure not me. To did deeper though the time of possession was 21 and an half to 38 and a half. Defenses do wear down. That's hard to over come. Granted Iowa didn't get as many chances do to the time of possession, but this game was not on the defense and it wasn't mediocre. At times, it was stellar. There are at least 4 players playing their guts out. 2 on D and 2 on O.

Couldn’t disagree more actually. Wisconsin dominated in time of possession because our offense was so terrible and couldn’t stay on the field. No team in the country is going to be able to hold up against Wisconsin if they are asked to stay on the field for nearly 40 minutes.

If it wasn’t for how well our defense played this game could have been something like a 50-0 drubbing.

They arent asked to stay on the field that long. They choose to stay on the field that long by not getting off the field. They ran all over us starting on the first play of the game.

So let's say you want to saddle the defense with the whole shebang... they scored 14, so really the game was more like 24-0. and with 40 minutes on the field, that's just over .5 points per minute. Let's see if we look back at previous games TOP this season and look at how many points per minute on the field the D gave up. I'd suspect it's pretty close to that mark.

If you don’t understand how an offense getting only 5 first downs in a college game makes it nearly impossible for a defense, I would say you have a severe lack of understanding of the game of football.

Iowa’s defense did get off the field. They forced 4 turnovers and 5 punts. That is 9 stops.

Dude, with 7 minutes left in the third quarter the Iowa defense was playing a top 10 team to a 14-17 game and our offense was still on the bus. Then our offense got off the bus just in time to give the badgers defense a free seven points on a fumble TD.

Take away the garbage time TD at the end after an Iowa fumble and the 7 from the badgers defensive touchdown and our defense just played Wisconsin to a 14-24 game on the road.

You are so so wrong on this one.

I'm wrong in your eyes because you think I'm comparing how the defense played to how our offense played. Our defense got run on starting with the first play. Obviously the guy with 2 pick 6s and a forced fumble played great. Other than that, I'm sure the rest of the defense is pretty embarrassed at how they were physically no match from the opening snap.

they did... 14 pts at least off our turnovers that I can remember.

Stanley and the receiver core was just dreadful.

At least on Monday, for me their lives have to be living hell for the level of play they exhibited today.

Receivers that can't catch a inaccurate QB with no touch.

They didn't look like scholarship players today.

and play calling, right? that was horrible too, right?

while i agree our offense didn't sustain anything and that caused the defense to be on the field way to often and long, we also didn't stack the LOS, that I saw, and force an avg, at best, qb to have to beat us. i mean, 2 pick 6's and that wasn't our game plan to force him to throw?

The defense played fine with what they had to deal with. The one thing they need to shore up and this happened last week against OSU too is that they gave up WAY too many yds on first down. Even when they knew Wisc was a big run heavy offense on 1st down plays. I can only remember one play that got less than 5 yds on first down and many times it was 7-8yds. Hard to stop an offense allowing that.

Iowa’s defense allowed 382 yards. Their season average is 371 (41st in the country). But remember they were on the field for 63% of the game, which is well above their season average of roughly 50%.

Iowa’s defense allows on average 5 yards per play (33rd in the country). On Saturday that number was 5.7, which isn’t great but certainly isn’t awful.

Maybe it just frustrated you especially that UW could run the ball on us, even when we knew what was coming, but that’s what UW does to everyone and is why they are one of the better offenses in the country.

So in summary we were right about at our average for yards allowed in a game against the best team we’ve faced on the road all season. On top of that the defense scored 14 points and generated two additional turnovers. The defense played well.
