TK, this just shows the very thing shortsighted disrespect that I have been talking about. Van Gundy doesn't get to decide what values and traditions that other people hold and value. If he is truly for free speech himself, he should understand that people have the right to say, hey, we think you should be standing during the Anthem. He hides behind freedom of speech, and says that OTHER PEOPLE SHOULD SHUT UP, and only let his point of view matter. Stop hiding behind freedom of speech, while trying to deny others of theirs.
One of the great things about this country about is that while yes you have the freedom of speech, others can also respond to your speech. Thank god publicly the use of many derogatory names has gone away. The people that used those words were shouted down, were told that isn't right to use those words. That while those just may be words to you, and you might not even be trying to hurt others, they did HURT A GROUP OF PEOPLE. It doesn't matter if you understand why it hurts them. We don't use the R word, we don't use the F word, we don't use the N word. All those words hurt different group of people, because it disrespected them. All people are saying is don't kneel during the Anthem, your "free speech" is hurting a group of people in this country, the veterans and the families of veterans that fought and died for this country. Not only that it is hurting a group of people your cause has nothing to do with. I could understand this if this was about, well F this country and the military, we hate them. Yet the people kneeling are saying "well we respect the military, this isn't about them. Well to bad, you don't get to just say that you aren't disrespecting them, when that majority of that group say, well heck yeah you are disrespecting them.
There are a millions ways to deliver a message. You don't have to spit in the eye of an entire group of people to deliver this message. It is senseless, and shows either wanton disrespect, or a lack of self awareness as to what they are doing.
