Dom Uhl to backup the 5?

Fran is transitioning this team away from a traditional 5 man. The future of the game is to play 5 athletes instead of 4 athletes and Frankenstein standing on the block.

Yeah except for you know, the defending national champions (Okafor). The runner up had a 7-footer that was pretty good.

Spurs have been a fixture with a foundational big man.

also the new defensive rules will make a traditional big important

Well if there are a couple examples of true centers, they must still be a big thing after all.

The point was not to pick out a couple of examples, rather show that at the highest level the great teams still have a solid post man.

Last years Final Four had 4 high level bigs (kaminsky, Okafor, Towns and Cauley Stein).

Dom Uhl guarding Okafor or Towns would not end well.

One and done players dominating is not a surprise. Also you act like Duke and Kentucky got to the final 4 ONLY because of the centers. The truth is those teams made it that far because of the elite talent overall on the teams.

If you can get a great center then get them. If you can't, don't waste a scholarship on a 4 year project that might get you 1 good year after developing for 4 years. That is what people are talking about, nobody in their right minds is gonna pass on a Towns/Okafor/Stein....or a Woody.

You say Woody isn't a project? That Gabe wasn't a project? Could it be because of, Fran has decided to go in another direction? Hope that's not too cryptic.

Maybe after 3 seasons Fran realized Iowa could function adequately without the big man? Without the project?

Woody is a 4 year starter. The term "project " is reserved for people who won't contribute for a few years.

I would say that it is not a certainty that iowa can do without a legit 5. It does look like we will see that experiment tried in the years to come.

A 4 year starter is not a "project". Just because he wasn't All B1G his first 3 seasons doesn't mean he didn't contribute mightily from brining this team from the bottom of the B1G to the top 3 of the B1G and a NCAA team now 2 year in a row.

Plus you always, always, always take a top 50 player. Some work out better than others, but you would have to be insane crazy nuts to not take a top 50 kid who is a 7' C.
