Does Iowa Get A Bowl At 6-6?

I see fans traveling, but the University would eat a lot of tickets (mostly due to their insane add-on prices).
We'd have maybe 10K in Houston and maybe 15K in Jacksonville.

I will only buy tickets from the University if we go to the Rose Bowl. Otherwise, I will take my chances elsewhere. I've heard far too many stories of loyal fans getting jobbed with highly expensive corner or endzone tickets to trust the allotments given to the participating universities.

How soon they forget how bad it sucks to be in Iowa in winter

Yeah, they suck. But I'd rather go to Hawaii or somewhere nice in maybe January or February when winter gets really sucktacular than go to some dump to watch an Iowa bowl game.

Awesome, There is someone I want to call an idiot, but can't without other people getting mad, so I will get my fix responding to you.

Your analogy is really flawed. You clearly have no understanding of Iowa's bowl prep process or their history under KF. A more appropriate analogy would be 2001. That team lost to Purdue, UM, MSU, Wisky, and ISU. They had 4 conference wins and skipped OSU. Know what happened the next season and what younger impact players got on the field?

Iowa spends the vast majority on bowl prep refocusing on fundamentals! The majority of their implementation of the game plan occurs once they get to the bowl location.

Oh yeah, I knew a number of players on the 2001 team. They appreciated being able to go to a bowl.

My only hope this year is that Iowa doesn't jump other teams and ends up playing an opponent that is far stronger. Give the men a chance to play a competitive game against a relatively equal opponent.

Please elaborate on what losses Iowa would have otherwise been able to win this year because Rudock and Beathard were able to watch JVB practice 15 more times?

Let's see, the Hawks have been practicing for about 12 to 13 weeks now and I'm not seeing much improvement from the offense for an entire game.

Bowl practice would be very beneficial. Please tell me you are simply frustrated(understandably) and not serious that you think it wouldn't be helpful to get 15 extra practices.

If your serious...sorry.

University tickets from the bowl are usually the worst.
I've been to 7 bowls game and bought tickets through the University, once, and that was my last time.
The seats are either end zone or top level sideline. Then, the UofI adds another $30-$40 to the ticket.
When you read about the University only selling so many tickets, it's because fans are buying better tickets at a cheaper price on the open market.

Sorry, I think the "extra practices" are overrated too. I'm sure they help to some degree, but let's take last year as an example; Assume we went to a bowl. The 15 extra practices wouldn't have helped Rudock or Beathard in the least.

It's insincere for this coaching staff to say the extra practices/reps are needed for player development but never let a back-up see the field during a game unless there is an injury.

There may be some truth to this, but I would take even a tiny bit of development over zero development. Plus, selfish me, wants to watch the hawks in a bowl game...this year...any bowl game.

The next round of bowl contracts, which coincide with the CFP, should result in better seats being forced on the schools. We'll see if that turns out to be true.

Since the internet experts tell me that additional practices are worthless, I think Iowa should skip Spring practices.

They wouldn't be watching JVB, they would be the one's getting the extra reps.

I'm with you, Walker. I may not be "happy" about going 6-6 and getting a lower tier bowl game if that's the way it ends up... But it's better than last year or 2007 where the Hawks weren't in any game at all. That doesn't mean I don't want (or expect) better, but we may as well make the best of the hand we're dealt as fans. The alternative is to sit home and sulk. My choice is to turn on the TV on December 27th or whatever day the game is, and try to enjoy it.

As for the practices.. It's hard to say how much impact they have, but I agree that anything is better than nothing.

My logic tells me that with KFs record in bowl games against a lot of really good teams that the bowl practice really helps. They get healthy, they get back to fundamentals, and I have to say that KOK and Norm were tough with 30 days to prepare for an opponent.

Have to agree... One thing that I think KF does well with is bowl prep. Iowa typically seems refocused and comes out strong after a month or so off and time to regroup. 2006 and 2010 come to mind in particular - the team folded like a tent those two years but looked like a different team in the bowl game (even though it lost to TX in 2006).

I consider the Alamo Bowl in 2006 against Texas a tie as that call on Chandler I think it was for being lined up illegally was pretty lame on replay.

I remember after that game that it was really great to see a 6-6 hawk team go dead even with a really good texas program as I think Texas finished second in the Big 12 South that year.

It was a penalty and the correct call

And if memory serves, that was the year Texas was defending national champs, although Vince Young was gone, of course. Colt McCoy I thought was their QB at that time. Iowa didn't win, but I remember thinking "Now this is the Iowa team I was expecting to see this year."

You want to take about lame calls in a bowl game - how about the offsides call on the onside kick in the Outback Bowl on 1/1/2006?

My doubts on the amount of benefit the extra practices may have has nothing to do with me wanting to see them in a bowl game. I want to see them in a bowl game even if it is the Humanitarian Bowl. I just don't think the extra practices afforded to bowl eligible teams translate into giant steps of progression for next year's team. It certainly doesn't hurt, but this team doesn't all the sudden make the Top 25 rankings in 2014 because it got 15 extra practices this season.

What would have been more helpful to Rudock and/or Beathard this season?

A) 15 extra practices with him backing up JVB on the 2nd team at the end of last year's season.

or

B) 10-15 snaps in each of the 3 games where the outcome was decided by more than 2 touchdowns.

Which reminds me, if we ever go to the Outback Bowl again, I ain't going.

Iowa could practice every day for the next year and ,at least offensively, it would not matter. If the philosophy is bad and the talent level is not there, 15 additional practices or a full year of extra practice will help little.

biggest fail in the thread. Practice helps everyone even if they are as bad as the bad news bears. Do you think Hoosiers would have happned without practice?

This team has been practicing i.e. doing game prep for 12 to 13 weeks and based on what i've seen the offense is getting worse each week.

Normally yes, the more a team practices the better they become. Not seeing it with this staff in charge. I'd like to be optimistic and believe in what they are doing. However, I've actually watched this head coach for 15 years now and without Norm Parker on his staff, 15 extra practices won't do sqaut because KF will have the same philosophy he's had for his head coaching career.

KF and his philosophy of bullying everybody ended when speed became the number one thing for teams. Remember, on a football field the biggest bully's cannot bully people they cannot catch.
