Does Erb need to go?

With the most recent problem with Coker this just adds another to many problems at the running back position for Iowa. Handfuls of backs have left the program and most have them have been because of disciplinary problems. I do not run a college football program but one would think that KF and any other head coach out there delegates a lot of responsibility to assistants on not only handling there positon players on the field but off the field as well. It just seems like the RB postion has had more problems than any other and is it his responsibility to keep them reeled in?
Add on to the fact that he is a special teams coach and Iowa's special teams has been horrendous the last 2 years and can be directly responsible for several HAwkeye losses in that span of time.
So, again, I ask you, does Erb need to be let go?

I'm starting to wonder the same thing...him and Ejiasi...because obviously he is ineffective in his role.

Remember Erb was coaching receivers during the Douglass, Bowman, and Cleveland days. I have been saying the same thing for a while. Dude keeps his job because he is supposedly a good recruiter. But seriously, how hard would it be to recruit his area for Iowa?

I also have said that Ejiasi's job is problematic, because it enables the other coaches to not do part of their job. Wouldn't it just have been better to have the position coaches step up their relationships with their players?

how do you know this? maybe things would be worse if he werent in this position?

in fact, i seem to remember that being the case a few years ago.

also, our RB's have been great since Erb made the switch, at least in a purely football sense.

What good is a talent if it can't ever stay on or see the field? Seems like a lot of wasted time.

Seriously? Shonn Greene was for the one year that Erb coached him at the position, but you really want to say Iowa's RB have been that great?

yes. i believe all of our starters have received at worst all-conference mention, which is notable considering that some of them were not highly recruited.

Keep in mind we got lucky with Greene as well. He was originally a casulaty of the RB Gods. I think you have to be dumb not to look at Erb and say WTF? Get your boys in line or your gone.

I have no problems seeing him go. I am personally not a fan of Erb. Can he recruit? I guess so. But truthfully running back coaches who can recruit are a dime a dozen.

Plus he is one of the coaches (along with Wilson) responsible for our special teams. Our special teams have not been very special lately.

I would like more clarification on how you all think Erb is the source of the problems besides some recruiting? I think Ejiassi may need to get lit up but I am still unclear how in depth his role is. Does he rotate going home with these guys and having sleep overs? Or is there just counseling onvolved?

It is still hard to monitor these guys 24/7 365. The coaches at some point need to rely on these young adults to make correct decisions some portions of the day. The Coker thing still seems bizzarre since he seems like a smart kid and seems like he had a good family. I hope this one screw up doesn't really cost him.

So what you're saying is we should put chips in every player to monitor them 24/7? I LOVE IT!!!

85 scholarship players plus a additional 40 walk-ons makes 125 kids to babysit
maybe we need more GA's to be assigned a certain # of players to babysit
or better yet lets build a special jail like dorm where every player has to stay and sign in and out with their plan of activities

The guy I don't understand how he keeps a job on this staff is Eric Johnson.

Isn't he recruiting coordinator and TE's…..seen a lot of very talented players roll thru here so I guess I don’t see the recruiting problem. Insight…??
