Does anyone really believe there are going to be any changes?

I don't see it, other than Davis decides to retire, and I mean, he decides to retire, not a forced retirement. I don't think any changes will be mandated by Barta, and I don't think Ferentz will make any changes on his own. He tried it a few years ago and it didn't help. That's his frame of reference. I don't see him going back to that barrel. Think 2011, Iowa's comeback against Pitt brought about by a fantastic finish all with the use of the no huddle, hurry up offense. Next week, at Penn State, came out in the no huddle - didn't work on the first series - and we never saw it again, for the rest of the year. Call it stubbornness, a middle finger, loyalty, integrity, whatever side of the spectrum you may be on, I don't think anything of consequence will change for 2015. Of course, this is premised on Ferentz himself coming back next year, which I think is very likely.

I believe one or two assistants will be sacrificed to satisfy the fan base, as if that suddenly makes everything better. Davis may choose to retire but I think Parker, Doyle and Ferentz are all safe.

Going way, way, WAAAAAAAY out on a limb on that last one.

You can't have change without making a change.

I don't even think Ferentz's seat is hot. We might get all mad, send emails to Barta, cancel our season tickets, etc. But I think KF is sitting on one of these: http://www.toastietush.com/ And he's pretty comfortable.

Not a chance. The definition of Kirk's weakness...is the complete aversion to change.

The program is flat...dead...stagnant...until he leaves.

If KF is back for 2015, I hope he doesn't change a thing! I want there to be ZERO reason for him to buy more time because of a so called learning curve to learn so and so's new system. If he does stay, it's fact that 2015 will be another wasted season....our talent level blows.

There will be few if any changes. KF has his formula but he doesnt have Shonn Greene or a healthy Jermelle Lewis or Jewel Hampton.

If the Oline and running game doesnt take it up a notch the next couple years will be mediocre to bad. The hawk offense is predicated on decent running and play action passing. When UNI, Ball St and ISU can shut down your run game you know something is wrong.

Same with the defense with the linebackers, the lbkr play needs to improve dramatically.

When the above teams can shut down your run game, you've already skipped past mediocre and gone to bad.
But hey, I hear KF may be shaking things up by getting a fancy new pen to scratch notes with during the game, or may even get really crazy and dry a different brand of chewing gum. That ought to bring us out of this funk.

I seriously doubt any real changes will be made, I would expect only changes of a token variety because KF has amply demonstrated that he does not adapt to change, period. He may have initially (3 years ago) wanted GD to implement more tempo into the offense but he reverted back to what they were doing before. He has too much commitment (mired?) to what worked in the past, he cannot or will not see it any other way. It does not matter that the college game has changed dramatically over his tenure at Iowa, KF is going to do it the same way he's always done things. Some of that may be because he is stubborn but I think a lot is due to the fact that he is incapable of seeing it any other way.

It's no different than a CEO of a business that is experiencing major market changes. The effective CEO will recognize the changes, formulate a plan for competing in the new environment and articulate a vision for how they will operate going forward. The ineffective CEO may recognize the market changes but his only idea is to cut or change staff, mainly because he refuses to admit the current plans (his) are failing. When has KF actually articulated anything resembling a plan of action in this new age of college football? He hasn't, to my knowledge. Even worse, if he was asked to do so, could he give a convincing argument for what his team is currently doing?

It's sad to say but I believe KF does not have the right answers, mainly because he lacks the necessary vision and is unable to convince players and coaches that his game plans will be successful. Frankly, I see Iowa football as going through the motions right now, and if they were a regular business, they would be ripe for acquisition. They clearly need new blood in the program, anything less will not turn the program around.

I like the talent level of the players coming back. I was thinking of some plans to help utilize them. Iowa has a lot of depth at FB. How about moving John Kenny back to LB? He is a tough player and could be a good run stopper. Iowa also will have 3 hybrid LB/DE players. These are Reggie Spearman, Nate Meier, and Jameer Outsey, a 3* RS freshman out of New Jersey who was recruited as either a linebacker or defensive end. With these players Iowa could use more defensive formations and rush packages. They could switch things up and sometimes run a 5-2 or a 3-4, disguised blitzes, end contain etc. This could makes opponents offenses a bit more confused and could result in more turnovers.

3 or 4 days ago I would have said no, but Jon's last podcast he mentioned something about hearing rumblings within the athletic dept. and he is waiting on verification and/or confirmation before he ran with it..........Still leaning no, but I am curious what Jon heard.

The sarcastic side of me says "not a chance in hell", but it seems clear that there's far more dissatisfaction and rumblings this year, much more than there's ever been, and more heat on KF.

So honestly, I'm hopeful there will be some changes, but I won't be a bit surprised if there are none. In other words, I don't know.

If KF still thinks that his way is perfectly fine and will work, then nope.
