Does anyone really believe there are going to be any changes?

I think parties on both sides (pro/anti) Kirk would agree changes need to be made. I'm not an expert so I won't pretend to have the answer.

DJI laid out his opinion very well and I think he hit the nail on the head on a lot of points. Obviously I worry that Kirk is too stubborn to change, but I don't necessarily buy into that. I worry that he wants to change and improve, but just doesn't know how to go about it. Or maybe, at this point in his career, he doesn't want to spend the time and energy it would take to reinvent himself.

My opinion....he is going to make a few tweaks and see if he can't get things back on track next season. If that doesn't work, I would not be surprised if he decides to walk away.

I like the talent level of the players coming back. I was thinking of some plans to help utilize them. Iowa has a lot of depth at FB. How about moving John Kenny back to LB? He is a tough player and could be a good run stopper. Iowa also will have 3 hybrid LB/DE players. These are Reggie Spearman, Nate Meier, and Jameer Outsey, a 3* RS freshman out of New Jersey who was recruited as either a linebacker or defensive end. With these players Iowa could use more defensive formations and rush packages. They could switch things up and sometimes run a 5-2 or a 3-4, disguised blitzes, end contain etc. This could makes opponents offenses a bit more confused and could result in more turnovers.

Talent level of the players coming back? That's one of the major problems, there is a huge lack of talent, and nobody coming in that's going to upgrade the talent level.

Not sure what's going on in Iowa 3 separate BCS Head Coaches have told me Iowa assistants have contacted them about jobs this off season

Take it for what it is but it sounds like assistant changes are coming. Whether they are looking for a way out or think they are going to be canned... Either way won't change a damn thing though and we all know it. Recruiting and KFer philosophy is the problem.

When the above teams can shut down your run game, you've already skipped past mediocre and gone to bad.
But hey, I hear KF may be shaking things up by getting a fancy new pen to scratch notes with during the game, or may even get really crazy and dry a different brand of chewing gum. That ought to bring us out of this funk.

You know, this criticism of his note pad and pen is kind of silly. Urban Meyer and Mark Dantonio both do the same thing (even noted that Urban Meyer is left handed). I have seen coaches in other conferences do it as well. Oh, and the gum comment is even sillier.

Interesting.

If coaches are looking for new jobs who can blame them? Most assistant coaches want to be in a position to grow and advance or ride the success wave. Well we waved at success a few years ago. Jon hit the nail on the head Norm Parker really made Iowa football. Until we hire someone like him to run the D anything thats done will probably be very lateral. As for the "rumblings" Jon heard....I think like any job when things are going bad people talk and rumble but only very few things heard matter. I know I took this year off of Hawk football and am doing it again next year and sadly at this point even a new coach wont suck me back in there is going to have to be some real signs shown of success to get me to give up all that time and energy again. I always want the Hawks to win but I am not going to watch them when winning is so obviously a struggle. I dont not watch the games anymore. I just dont push things off like I used to only to watch the game. Id rather be ****** we lost and have spent some time with friends or family that day and not had to watch it...lol. Either way I hate to see Kurts legacy trashed and hope someday I can call him Kirk again.

I am not criticizing taking notes or chewing gum, I'm simply making a joke that he will make tiny changes to his rituals we see him perform on the sidelines as a way of saying I don't think much change is coming. I'm sorry if that somehow offended you.

It is a matter of opinion but I was impressed with many of the players on the team that are coming back. The team also adds some very good players.

I'd love to know which coaches.

Tark the Shark chewed on a towel! The gum chewing is fine, but Kirk still needs to be canned!

Slow down there, big fella. You're talking innovation and thinking outside the box. These are attributes that go against the nature of the program. We are strictly a 4-3 bend but dont break, hope the DL can get to the QB and clog the OL so out LBs can make plays. There is no room for this type of thinking here. You need to take your new fangled ideas and tout them somewhere else.
