Do U want the hawks to play up or down in the bowl game?

The hawks many times play up in their opponent in bowl games. The hawks are many times a 4-5th place Big team playing a 3rd place SEC team and it shows. It didnt show in 2003-5 but those hawks were the bullies of the big 10.

So who do you want the hawks to play, an upper Pac 12 team in the Holiday Bowl, a middle level ACC team in the Pinstripe or SeC team in Music City bowl, or a lower level MAC team in the Quick Lane in Detroit?

Let me know.

I always think the hawks play better playing up in standing or they used to but the worst thing would be to lay a Big Egg against a lower level MAC team in a lower bowl. I am hoping for Music City against a decent but mid level SEC team.

Playing a bowl game against a MAC team is a no win situation. If I was going to the game, I'd want them to play in Nashville or San Diego. But since I'm not, I want to see a win so hopefully they don't get bumped up and play a team that's definitively better than them.

With the exception of KOK's last year 2011 the Hawkeye's did pretty well at bowl preparation up to that point. Greg Davis's offenses looked utterly clueless in all their bowl appearances. It was almost as if the extra time worked against offensive preparation. I have no idea how well they will play, but at least I'm curious how things will go.

Can you imagine Iowa playing in the Holiday a bowl against Stanford? That just ain't fair.

No thank you.

I want Iowa to play a team with similar talent and similar record.

I want Iowa to win a freeking bowl game

Currently we do not match up against many teams in a bowl game. We are always unprepared with our dated philosophy and teams with 3 weeks to prepare for us expose us and our lack of speed. I have always went to every bowl game with my family to enjoy my friends family and alumi buddies I went to school with, but after the joke of all jokes at the Rose Bowl, the enjoyment is no longer worth the embarassment.. Pretty much will watch this one at home. And if you look at the 4 possible locations and yes including nashville the hotel rooms are all over $400 a night.
Why would you waste your money on such a game is my question. I will watch at home and save my 4K this time.

Up. Always up.

Playing against lesser opponents is stupid. If you win it’s no big deal because you should have won, and if you lose it’s a huge deal because you should have won.

Wanting to play shitty teams to pad your record is a defeatist attitude and you should always want to play the best.

Look what happened on 2015. We had a Rainbow Brite schedule until we played two real teams. MSU (which was tight) and Stanford which was a blowout. We found out how good the Hawks really were. I’d rather earn the respect of playing tough teams.

And if Iowa wins it against Eastern Upper Central Kalamazoo State it won’t mean dick. Play someone tough or why play at all?

I fully expect Iowa to be ready. But you never know.

Going back to 2010 Iowa has only played 2 teams that were seriosly having a better year and that was 10 and 11. One of those was a win. LSU was pretty similar and had the same conf wins. Sorry but Floida last year was not a good team. There were probaly 5 teams in SEC that could have been interchangeable.

Some Hawk fans make sooo many excuses.

If you dont prep and adjust you get beat. Hawks were very well prepared against Mizzou and they didnt want to be there.

Most years I would agree with this, but after 5 straight bowl losses all pretty much beat downs......Just give me the W. They need to steal a page out of the Wisconsin playbook take the momentum from a bowl game win or whatever and build upon it.

I want to see Stanley throwing to a bunch of receivers. Plays B.Smith, Cooper, ISM. MVB gets some reps but this needs to be practice for next season.

Play up... You have to play the best to be the best. I never understood why some people were so happy to not play OSU or Michigan or PSU. If you don't play them, you will never get credit for being good if in fact you really are. If your not, it will put you into a place in the standings where you belong. Play up or it isn't worth the effort...plain and simple.

Post-KoK, Hawks were decently prepared for LSU vs Outback, and first half vs. Florida the D seemed to have their hearts in the game. Beyond that, no idea what they were thinking. I think the Rose Bowl was a mix of "hearts not truly in it" AND a Stanford team proving they "belonged" in the playoff, but who knows?

I WISH I could have your expectation that Iowa will be fully ready. Maybe if they could have three crappy scrimmages they would be back in "beast mode" for a bowl game?
