Do U want the hawks to play up or down in the bowl game?

With the exception of KOK's last year 2011 the Hawkeye's did pretty well at bowl preparation up to that point. Greg Davis's offenses looked utterly clueless in all their bowl appearances. It was almost as if the extra time worked against offensive preparation. I have no idea how well they will play, but at least I'm curious how things will go.

Yes, OU's speed in 2011 showed but Iowa was in that game until late, they had a wide open McNutt in 3rd or 4th and goal and Vandy didnt see him, crazy. Mike Daniels and Binns I think had good games and the defense played pretty well since the offense was somewhat suspect.

My heart says play and beat a tough team but logic says we need a win so play a weaker team we can I HOPE clobber. I dont want to see the hawks losing to Eastern Mich. etc

Currently we do not match up against many teams in a bowl game. We are always unprepared with our dated philosophy and teams with 3 weeks to prepare for us expose us and our lack of speed. I have always went to every bowl game with my family to enjoy my friends family and alumi buddies I went to school with, but after the joke of all jokes at the Rose Bowl, the enjoyment is no longer worth the embarassment.. Pretty much will watch this one at home. And if you look at the 4 possible locations and yes including nashville the hotel rooms are all over $400 a night.
Why would you waste your money on such a game is my question. I will watch at home and save my 4K this time.

Maybe with KOK back BF can have a good offensive game plan in place and they execute because when they execute they can score. I am not too worried about the defense unless they have to play a ton of snaps. If hankins is the best other Corner then play him. I agree with you that since 2011 we have only looked pretty good against one bowl team being LSU and they were loaded with NFL talent. The hawks only gave up a couple of big runs in that game and it was very close.

Play up... You have to play the best to be the best. I never understood why some people were so happy to not play OSU or Michigan or PSU. If you don't play them, you will never get credit for being good if in fact you really are. If your not, it will put you into a place in the standings where you belong. Play up or it isn't worth the effort...plain and simple.
At the bowl level Iowa is at, nobody they play will be “the best”.

Post-KoK, Hawks were decently prepared for LSU vs Outback, and first half vs. Florida the D seemed to have their hearts in the game. Beyond that, no idea what they were thinking. I think the Rose Bowl was a mix of "hearts not truly in it" AND a Stanford team proving they "belonged" in the playoff, but who knows?

I WISH I could have your expectation that Iowa will be fully ready. Maybe if they could have three crappy scrimmages they would be back in "beast mode" for a bowl game?

I have no complaints about THAT LSU game. Florida is in my mind the low point.

If concluded KF is a good coach but stubborn. He will some day make a run his way. Quietly speed has improved. Expect more frustration and surprises. He needs this game to keep fire off his back. 8-5 is within reason a decent season. 7-6 not.

We have unfinished business with THE CARDINAL, especially after the stuff their band did. A rematch to regain all the honor lost in that Rose Bowl Game and get revenge on their band is only natural. While the Hawks might seem a little over matched against Stanford on the surface, we can trust that Coach Ferentz will make adjustments to his game plan and use the longer break to get the team prepared better that Coach Shaw ever could.

Iowa usually plays up in their bowl games, which I'm fine with. It would just be nice if the coaching staff actually had the team prepared to play this year.

Speed has definitely improved, and "athleticism" has definitely jumped up during the KF era. That said, 8-5 will still feel like a bit of a letdown for the NW (although they actually have had good season) and Purdue games.

Unlike some, I never really felt we were competitive against MSU. For all the mistakes the Hawks made, MSU had almost as many, and probably could have seriously rolled us.

It sure would be nice to see that bowl practices really DID show that alleged (by talking heads, coaches, "experts", etc.) "monumental leap" that freshman/young players make during bowl prep. If we see that, I almost don't care who we play, we can keep it close enough to have chance.

Getting blown out from the opening kickoff would just add to the misery.

One of Stanford's best players is from Omaha, and he was a champion wrestler in Nebraska. This is the kind of kid that you think Ferentz would kill for on the recruiting trail.

The bowl is a nice reward for a season and an exhibition game. It allows extra practice and fun for the players. They're not playing for a championship. Therefore, a team with similar talent and record is my preference.

WTF??? Weird sarcasm. Yeah Iowa can beat a team like Stanford but they would need to play really well.
