Do bowl games mean anything anymore?

There was always something cool about ending your season with a win, or your career in the case of the seniors.

For decades college bowl games were one of the few examples where this still existed. Now the times are a changing and that feeling is ending even in college football.

By the way the Dylan reference in there is in honor of going to his movie today (Christmas Day)

There are two ways to approach bowl games. One is to put everything you have into winning. The other is to treat the trip as a vacation reward. If you are not one of the national finals teams I think you should make it a vacation.

I'm sure it matters to the players and coaches. If it matters to you, you probably need to look in the mirror and figure out some stuff.

Yes

I see bowl games now as a springboard going into the next season. It is a good way to evaluate a roster in a bunch of different ways.

Depends on who you are I suppose. Coaches probably have mixed feelings about it. Players it depends on who ya are as well most probably do. Just the trip to a warm city they've maybe never been to is fun for them. The ones with NFL aspirations are who it becomes problematic for and that's like what 3-5 kids a yr usually? Less then 10 unless you're like Bama or OSU. It's a low % of the team yet always the most talked about.

As a fan I'll always watch Iowa's game. But other schools? Just depends if I happen to be in front of the TV and what else is on. They don't mean squat to me really. They've made the playoffs the end all be all for that. It's like the NBA trying to act like that mid season tourny they have going 'means' something. I guess it's more $ for the players that win but beyond that....

College football is a year-round effort now and bowls are a great reward for all the effort, IMO.

The players and coaches put in so much work, it's great they get this sense of accomplishment, even if they are just a 6-6 team. I feel for the teams that don't have a winning record and don't get to go bowling.

This year, for example, the only bowl game I really care about is the Music City Bowl. If I feel other bowls are intriguing, I'll maybe watch part of a game, i.e. Ohio St/Oregan.

But if ESPN wants to fund all these games, then why not play them?
