DJK is a college coach

Would love to see a reconciliation between he and KF. For all I know there has already been one behind the scenes, but would be nice to see something public like honorary captain. He was a fan favorite, and he has always been supportive of the program (edit:I should probably say he has been generally supportive of the program). We all grow.

Could it be possible that DJK has matured? Or is it possible that the inner jerk that got himself in the doghouse so many times is still lurking?

One thing I am certain of. DJK will never be a full time assistant on any Kirk Ferentz staff at Iowa.

Interesting didn't know any of that. I'll go out on a limb and say KF probably didn't write any recommendation letters on his behalf initially.... But maybe now who knows. Time can heal some of those things. I mean if some folks are forgiving Ronnie Harmon...

DJK will make a good coach I think. He's got fire and a big personality (which tripped Kirk's trigger) and should be a very good recruiter. Congrats DJK!

The type of man who would forgive Ronnie Harmon is the type of man, and I use the term loosely, who blames America for starting WWII or says that America deserved to be attacked on 9/11.

Yeah and I'm not one of those on that boat btw. Harmon did that to himself. What he did would be like Jordan scoring 2 points in a finals game when he was perfectly healthy. If people think Jordan retired over gambling reasons what would they have said if Jordan laid an egg like that and lost in the finals...

Really, really hard to forgive Harmon for the Rose Bowl. I'm still working on it.

But DJK is a really intelligent guy with a big personality. Hopefully, this springboards into something even bigger for him.

It'd be nice to. Wish I could. But man.. Just imagine having the college career he did and have all your success be ignored because of your last game and doing that... That'd be a tough pill to swallow. He had a solid NFL career played quite awhile. But he hasn't felt like he could ever come back to Iowa. What's KFs two cents on him? I can't say I've ever heard him talk about him. If he has I've missed it.

DJK came from a broken home and was full of piss and vinegar when he was a kid. Did he sometimes dog it? Yeah, but even greats like my personal hero, Randy Moss, dogged it. Not everyone has that Jerry Rice mentality where they can never turn it off and when you're a guy like DJK who showed he had the talent to be a star at OSU by taking a kick back against them in their own house, it's really hard to keep your focus when working within the confines of a Ferentzian offensive strategy (that was when KOK was running the offense but KF put a lid on it). I don't fault the kid one bit.

He might have done some stupid stuff when he was at Iowa, but he was the one guy who showed up to play against Minnesota when most of the rest of the team just mailed it in that day. They lost to a team that was 1-6, 2-9 heading into that game.

Due to privacy reasons we'll probably never know, but I always wondered if DJK suffered by some type of issue such as Bipolar Disorder. His antics and decision making occasionally bordered on what is seen with manic episodes. That's assuming that he wasn't partaking in recreational substances that can have a similar effect.

Glad to see that he's succeeding as a coach.

Didn't he threaten at one point to write a book detailing his time at Iowa and it would include NCAA violations? Yeah, pretty sure he and KF will never be having a beer together.

That's all true with DJKs back round. But there's more to him. While at Iowa he started running with the wrong crowd too. To me that started his (and a whole lot of folks) downward slide with his off the field issues.

Yes I remember that now too. Now that you mention that. Dang I'd totally forgotten it for a long time though.. He was all pissed and was telling Iowa media folks print and radio that he was going to write a book and basically burn it all down.

He backtracked on all that once he realized that everyone hated him and his life was going nowhere but in the dumpster.

I've always thought he didn't have any dirt anyway.

When you look at the literally thousands of football players who pretty much stated publicly that they'd jump on a grenade for KF it says something. I don't always agree with his coaching style (although I agree with it more now than years ago), but there's no denying that Ferentz is a positive role model in a lot of kids' lives and lots of them had their futures totally transformed by playing on his football teams.

I think the thing is with Ferentz that you get the absolute 100% benefit of the doubt when you come on board (which is important to wet-behind-the-ears college kids), and you'll get a second chance if you screw up, but if you cross him or his staff you might as well be Fredo. You're dead to the program and DJK couldn't come to terms with that.
