DJK busting out his mic skills

1) I don't understand why KRUI would want to be involved with this guy as he is widely disliked by hawk fans.

2) Everytime I start hating on DJK (which is easy to do) I remember that Minnesota game where it appeared that he was about the only guy on the team that didn't give up. The drug house thing was an embarassment for sure but so was watching damn near a whole football team quit on the field.

I sat about 5 rows up from the Iowa bench that afternoon. Everybody just stood around with the shoulders hunched over except DJK. He was trying to fire everybody up but nobody seemed to care.

Am I the only one out there that doesn't have a huge amount of disdain for DJK? I hate how his career ended but I still appreciate the guy for what he did when he was on the field. And to be honest, I wouldn't mind a little charisma now and then. We had three guys in 2009 that were walking soundbites, DJK, Stanzi, and Angerer. Every week it seems like you got something good from those guys.
Nope, not the only one. Sure, his career ended in a ball of fire, but I harbor no ill will towards him. I don't really see the issue with him podcasting about Iowa football either.

I will listen at least once, he is a very eloquent guy and will likely have some solid insight, but I think he will say something ridiculous and this will be short lived.

Not even close. DJK wasn't butt pounding kids, at least as far as we know.

You're missing my point. I am not comparing the crimes, I am comparing the "I will overlook his criminal behavior off the field because he did great things on it" thought process.
Football ability and results are not what is important in life. Never give them a higher priority than being a good person and good citizen.
DJK did what he did off the field knowing full well that it was criminal. He'll get no pass from me.

Dude.... weed comes from the earth. It's all natural, brah

To be honest that game bothered me more than the drug house thing. I despise a quitter.

You have your weighted scale of justice, I have mine. Last I recall all the charges except possession of pot were dropped against him. I also know that over the course of history, that wouldn't make him the only one caught of this nefarious act on the team at one point. You can choose to not give him a pass, but I choose differently.

One of those guys is not like the other.

One of those guys was a me-first primadonna whose career self-destructed under the weight of his own ego and attitude. The other two, while also eccentric and entertaining, were also selfless players who bought into the program and always lifted up the team and coaches over themselves.

One of them had a ton of natural talent and flushed it all away to the point that he can't stick in the tattered remains of the AFL. The other two were also-ran recruits who worked hard and developed into great players and have gone on to respectible, if not spectacular, careers in professional football.

I'm with this.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

I think the most telling thing about that game was when DJK got tackled about 5 yards out of bounds on the Iowa sideline ...and the rest of his teammates just stood there and watch. Those Minnesota players should have needed the refs to drag them out of there, but instead not one Iowa player did anything. I think that says a lot about how the rest of the team felt about him.

Understandable, and his poor decision making is punishing him as we speak. I feel no need to pile on further.

I would feel the need to pile on him further if he would STFU and GTFO, but, after exhausting any chance he has at fame, he is settling for infamy, by returning to a place where he is widely considered a pariah to troll for attention.

I think this is an important observation.
Also telling is how his former teammates have turned their collective backs on him.
If he was truly "a good guy who made a little mistake", he would have had (and still have) support from former teammates.

Hardly anyone listens to KRUI anyway. 40-and-over Hawk fans aren't suddenly going to stop listening to KRUI's eclectic music selections and awful sports-talk shows because they have DJK on a podcast.

=

He does have support from at least one former teammate. The one that is currently suspended for PED's...

I'm with you HFN. I wish DJK nothing but success in the future. He was a team player and gave it his all during games for the Hawks 100% of the time. That is a more than can be said for some other Hawkeye players I have seen over the years.
