DJ Hernandez to Join Iowa Staff?

So serious question here (assume those are still allowed on HN): is this a good thing or not? I read Jon's piece in which people who knew Campbell said he was a nice guy, good with discipline but lacking as a teacher at the position. Was he a good recruiter or not? Unless there's a lot more to Hernandez than is being reported, I'm not seeing a big step up here.
Further, was Iowa's lack of offense this past season a function of the receivers, the quarterback or a flawed new offensive scheme being introduced by an OC who was fired by another D1 football program? While it could be all three, based on the games I saw I would more likely blame the last two -- a simply not very good quarterback and a horizontal, who-knows-what sort of offensive approach introduced by Greg Davis. So how is that going to be improved by changing receiver coaches? Seems more like re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

So I take it you assume all those dropped passes the past 2 years were either bad passes from the QB or a product of a bad OC?

How many drops were there versus over-throws, under-throws, missed targets, throws into coverage, overlooked and uncovered receivers downfield, throws that netted three yards or less? I don't have the numbers in front of me but just my sense of watching the games was there was far more of the latter than the former. Yes, the receiving corps also was not very strong but we did have some people who could make plays if the ball was delivered to them. YMMV.
I think prior to this year it was dropped balls, this season there weren't as many drops or at least if they were dropped they were due to the receiver not getting the ball in stride and it caused them to speed up or slow down or jump or dive. With that being said there were still a few drops CJF is the prime example of just dropping a good pass, he was like McNutt he was focused more on what he was going to do after he caught the ball, he forgot to actually catch it first.

So now you're asking perfection out of the qb's? If a ball is touchable then it's most likely catchable. Yes, JVB stunk this year, but so did the wr's as a group. There's plenty of blame to go around.

Dave it wasnt just dropped passes. It was JV missing guys by 10 yards. Do you really think he cant throw a pass with in 10 yards of where he wants it to go. Guys just didnt know where they were to be. Thats on Soup
If it is actually a GA position then I don't think he can actually recruit, can he? Also, the whole idea of being a GA is that you are learning and not necessarily expected to contribute a great deal outside of individual technique. This is getting a lot of attention for being a GA.

I think it was on Soup and GD, after all HawkeyeGameFilm had a write up on GD's style of offense earlier in the year. It said that this system is all about the QB and the WRs being the on same page. In by that they have the freedom to read the defense and adjust their route on what they see from the defense. But they have to do this without communicating. If Vandy and the WRs didn't see the same thing, then Vandy throws to the wrong spot not because he couldn't make the throw but the WRs and Vandy both saw something different. But the problem is who was right, Vandy or the WR?
I think that Soup and GD weren't on the same page therefore the QB and the WRs weren't on the same page. It was time for Soup to move on since GD was staying on again.
I might be wrong, but that is how I saw that play out.

This is who we are hiring? So no experience and this type of background?
He is only a GA, not an actual assistant coach.

If he was given a position coach title, I would understand the people being a little hesistant (putting that nicely), but he is just a GA.
Well, lets put it this way, until KF and the UofI put out a press release we really don't know for sure.
